Frequently asked questions about car rental in Montenegro

Use the booked vehicle conditions as the final checklist. A supplier will commonly request the original driver's license, a passport or national identity card, the reservation confirmation and an accepted card in the main driver's name. Have everything ready before reaching the pickup address.

The minimum age and required driving experience are shown in the selected vehicle’s Rental terms. Check those requirements for every additional driver before booking, too.

The issuing country and the supplier's rules determine whether an international permit or official translation is needed. Check the requirement before payment, particularly when the national license does not use Latin script. Bring the original national license as well as the requested supporting document.

Yes, residents of Montenegro can rent a vehicle with a valid ID card and driving license, under the same deposit and payment conditions as other users. The supplier may ask for additional checks depending on vehicle category and rental duration.

The additional driver must show a valid driving license and ID document, and must be entered into the contract before driving. This is useful for longer routes, for example Podgorica-Durmitor, Budva-Dubrovnik, Kotor-Lovcen or visiting several cities in one day.

Select a child seat or booster only from the extras available with the specific car. The selected extra and its price enter the total quote before confirmation.

Select snow chains or a ski rack if they are offered with the vehicle. If the equipment is not listed among its extras, ask for confirmation of availability before booking. Selected equipment and its price are included in the breakdown.

Choose a car for your passengers, luggage and planned route. A smaller car can be easier to park and manoeuvre in narrow streets; a larger one offers more space. A mountain destination alone does not mean you need an SUV. Check the vehicle terms and permitted roads.

Check that your selected equipment and its price appear in the breakdown and booking confirmation. Equipment you have not selected or that has not been confirmed is not automatically included with the car.

You can select a GPS or Wi-Fi device when it is listed among the specific vehicle’s extras. If it is not listed, do not assume it comes with the car; ask about availability before booking.

The security deposit amount is shown with the selected vehicle. If the deposit method, accepted card type or cardholder requirement is not listed, ask support to confirm it before booking. Payment methods accepted by the partner do not by themselves establish how the deposit is paid.

The total price includes the car rental, selected insurance package, selected extras and all mandatory fees shown in the price breakdown. The advance payment is part of the total. The security deposit is shown separately.

Check the payment methods shown for the partner and the options available for the online advance payment. If card requirements or another deposit method are not listed, confirm them with support before booking. A cards-accepted label does not confirm that every type of card is accepted.

Enter your travel dates and compare actual offers for that period. Other dates may have different prices and vehicle choices. A later seasonal price increase does not change the confirmed price of your selected offer.

If a no-deposit offer is available for your dates, it is clearly marked on the car. Compare its total price, insurance and other terms rather than assuming all cars have no deposit.

Montenegro uses the euro. All taxes and mandatory charges for the selected rental, pickup and return are already included in the displayed total; the security deposit is shown separately.

Contact support before pickup to request a change; a new offer depends on availability and your confirmation. If you cancel, the advance payment is not refunded and the remaining balance is not charged.

If you cannot reach the pickup, notify the provider and support immediately. The booking may be marked as a no-show under its confirmed terms. The advance payment is not refunded; if the booking is cancelled, the remaining balance is not charged.

An extension is often possible if the vehicle is available, but it must be arranged before the contract expires. If you are already on a route through the north, the coast or across the border, contact the supplier earlier to avoid late return or an unauthorized rental period.

Enter different pickup and return locations in the search. If a one-way offer is available, the charge for that selected handover is already included in the total before booking.

If the booking form offers a flight-number field, enter it. As soon as you know the flight is delayed, tell the provider and confirm the new meeting time and place.

Choose your pickup and return times in the search. If an out-of-hours handover is available, its terms and mandatory charge are already included in the displayed total before booking.

Do not assume there is a free grace period. If the terms do not state the allowance and late-return calculation, ask before booking. Notify the partner as soon as you know you cannot return the car at the agreed time.

At return, the exterior, interior, fuel and any new damage are checked. After beaches, gravel approaches or mountain routes, larger amounts of sand, mud or salt can be a problem. It is useful to photograph the vehicle at both pick-up and return.

We deliver every vehicle to any address in the selected city that you enter in the search. For a hotel or apartment, enter the property name, street and number. Delivery terms are shown with the vehicle, and the charge for the selected pickup and return is included in the total offer price.

Yes, you can choose pick-up directly at TGD or TIV airports. Tivat is especially busy during summer because of arrivals to the coast, while Podgorica is practical for routes towards Lake Skadar, the north, Niksic, Kolasin and the coast via Sozina.

Cross a border only with the provider’s approval and documents for every planned country. If selected while booking, the option’s mandatory charge is already in the total offer price.

Fuel policy varies by car. Read it on the individual offer, record the level at pickup and return the car according to the agreed rule.

The mileage allowance and any excess-mileage rate are shown with the car. Compare offers against your actual route if you plan a longer trip.

Most roads do not require vignettes, but some costs are paid separately. The Sozina tunnel is paid on the route between Podgorica and Bar, and the Kamenari-Lepetane ferry is used if you want to shorten the drive through Boka Bay between Herceg Novi, Tivat and Kotor.

Follow local signs, because speed limits often change between settlements, main roads and mountain sections. Be especially careful on the coast during summer, through inhabited places in Boka Bay and on the serpentines towards Lovcen, where slower driving is often more realistic than the posted speed limit.

Check parking at your accommodation and the rules for marked parking spaces at your destination before arrival. Use the city guide for parking locations, zones and charges. Parking during your trip is not part of the rental price unless the offer explicitly includes it.

Winters are milder on the coast, but if you drive towards Kolasin, Zabljak, Durmitor, Lovcen or the north of the country, winter equipment may be mandatory or practically necessary. In colder months, check whether the vehicle has winter tyres and snow chains before pick-up.

Most contracts restrict driving outside paved and public roads. If you plan villages, viewpoints, seasonal mountain huts or mountain routes around Durmitor, Prokletije or Lovcen, check the supplier's terms, because damage on gravel roads is often not covered.

Smoking and pet rules depend on the selected car. Check its Rental terms and disclose a pet before booking. A charge arises only if you breach the confirmed rules or damage the vehicle.

Parking fines, speeding, illegal stopping or other traffic violations are paid by the driver. This is especially important in tourist zones of Budva, Kotor and Tivat, on beaches, around airports and in city parking zones where checks are more frequent during the season.

Petrol and diesel are widely available on main routes, in cities and near airports. Before longer routes towards Durmitor, Prokletije, Lake Skadar or smaller places, it is better to refuel at larger stations and check the fuel type in the contract.

The Kamenari-Lepetane ferry is often used to shorten the route between Herceg Novi, Tivat, Kotor and Budva. In most cases it is allowed, but check the rental terms and keep the ticket, especially if you return the vehicle at another location.

In summer, coastal roads through Budva, Kotor, Tivat and Herceg Novi cause the most delays, while in winter conditions can be more demanding towards Kolasin, Zabljak and the mountains. Plan extra time for serpentines, border crossings, the ferry, tunnels and popular viewpoints.

Keep your last fuel receipt until the vehicle return is complete, especially if the partner requires it. Photos of the fuel gauge at pickup and return help confirm compliance with the agreed fuel policy.

First make sure passengers are safe, then contact the police if needed and inform the supplier immediately. Photos of the vehicle, location and damage are important, especially if the accident happens in a car park, in narrow streets of coastal cities or on mountain roads.

Compare the included and optional insurance packages for the same vehicle, including their cover and exclusions. If the excess amount is not stated, ask support before booking. The selected package price is included in the total.

Contact the supplier or roadside assistance from your voucher immediately. Lost keys, wrong fuel, towing or system cleaning are usually charged to the customer, especially if it happens far from larger cities or on a mountain route.

For crossing the border, you need supplier approval and the correct documentation for the countries you visit. This is important for routes towards Dubrovnik, Trebinje, Mostar, Shkodra, Serbia or Croatia, because basic insurance does not automatically mean permission to leave Montenegro.

The support and roadside assistance number is listed on the voucher or contract. When calling, prepare your booking number, location and problem description, especially if you are on the way towards the north, in Boka Bay, on Sozina, near the border or outside a larger city.
