01Parks, playgrounds and family walks
Playground time and the palace park at Krusevac

At Krusevac, you can combine children's play with a walk through the park around Petrovic Palace. The playground is part of this green area, and paths among the trees lead to the palace and the smaller buildings of the former palace complex.
You can use the playground and take a walk without attending a scheduled program. For the history of the palace complex and its art spaces, see our Krusevac guide. Krusevac on Google Maps.
A woodland walk and climbing course on Gorica

On Gorica, you can combine a family walk through pine woods with a climbing course. Maintained paths run across the hill, while the course takes you from one platform to another over bridges, nets and footholds.
The yellow course is for children aged four to eight, with protective equipment and instruction. A course ticket is valid for ninety minutes. Older children have more demanding courses with separate participation requirements. Check course requirements and opening hours on the Gorica Adventure Park website.
The main paved road is more suitable for strollers than the woodland shortcuts, but it climbs uphill. In warmer months, mornings and early evenings suit longer stays outdoors. For more on the trails, see Walking and recreation on Gorica. Gorica on Google Maps.
Playground and cycle path in Bemax Park

Bemax Park beside Toloska forest has a children's playground, walking paths and a two-way cycle path. The same recreation area includes basketball courts and exercise equipment. Alongside the playground for younger children, there is space for older children to ride bikes or play basketball.
Bring your own bikes to use the cycle path. The playground and walking paths are free to use, while separate conditions apply to the sports courts. Bemax Park, Toloska forest on Google Maps.
A family walk on Ljubovic

Ljubovic is a pine-covered hill between Stara Varos and Zabjelo. Walking and cycling paths run through the forest park, with limestone rocks visible among the trees in places. We recommend this outing for families who want a woodland walk close to these city neighborhoods.
The road through the forest park is closed to motor vehicles. The walk involves a climb, with benches along the paths for breaks. Ljubovic on Google Maps.
Along the Moraca: Njegos Park and Sastavci

From Njegos Park, you can join the Moraca promenade and spend part of a family day beside the river in central Podgorica. The riverside walkway runs beside green spaces, with views from the park toward the riverbed and city bridges.
Continue toward Sastavci, where the Ribnica flows beneath the stone bridge into the Moraca. Read about the history of this part of the city in our Sastavci guide.
The descent to the bridge area has steps and uneven ground. With a stroller, it is easier to stay on the park's upper paths, and children should be kept close beside the river. Njegos Park on Google Maps. Sastavci on Google Maps.
02Movies and children's theater
A family movie at Cineplexx

An animated or family movie at Cineplexx in BIG FASHION offers an indoor outing on a rainy day or during the summer heat. You can combine a screening with a meal in the same mall. Children's screenings include 2D and 3D formats, depending on the movie being shown.
Find current movies and screening times in the Cineplexx Podgorica schedule. With younger children, the running time and language matter: check whether a screening is dubbed or subtitled before buying tickets. The mall is on Cetinjski put. Cineplexx, BIG FASHION on Google Maps.
A puppet show or children's play

The City Theater offers puppet shows and plays for children. Its children's productions include fairy tales and plays based on literary stories, with shows for younger children and school-age audiences.
Choose a show by its subject, recommended age and running time, listed with its title. Check available performances and their venues in the City Theater schedule. The theater building stands at the intersection of Marka Miljanova and IV Proleterske streets, but follow the venue listed for your chosen performance. City Theater on Google Maps.
03A family outing to Mareza
Pools and slides at Imanje Knjaz

At Mareza, Imanje Knjaz has a water park with a splash pool for the youngest children, slides and other water attractions for children and adults. The complex also has an air-conditioned indoor play area and a restaurant. You can combine pools, play and a meal in one family outing from the center.
The water park operates seasonally, in summer. Children visit with adults, and non-swimmers use the pool under supervision. Before visiting, check the water park information and rules for visiting conditions and opening details. You need separate transport from the center to Mareza. Imanje Knjaz, Mareza on Google Maps.
04Excursions from Podgorica
Meet the donkeys in Martinici

At the donkey farm in Gradina Martinicka, families can see the animals up close, in the enclosure and around the stables. A visit may include feeding them fruit and vegetables under the host's guidance. The farm also has a small garden and vineyard.
Martinici is in Danilovgrad municipality, and reaching the farm requires separate transport. Arrange your visit with the host at +382 67 245 006. Read more about the grounds in the farm visitor information. Martinici donkey farm on Google Maps.
A family boat trip on Lake Skadar

From Virpazar, your boat follows a channel lined with reeds and willows before entering Lake Skadar, with views of Vranjina and the surrounding mountains. Kingfisher's shorter program continues past Lesendro toward the Moraca area. You may also see birds along the lakeshores and near the mouth of the Moraca.
The shorter boat trip lasts an hour and a half. This is the time spent aboard, so allow separately for the journey to Virpazar and the return to Podgorica when planning the full excursion. For access and a wider choice of outings, see our Lake Skadar guide.
With a small child, confirm a correctly sized life jacket and whether you can bring a stroller aboard your chosen boat before booking. You can book this outing as a short boat trip from Virpazar. Departures depend on conditions on the lake, and sightings of a particular bird species are not guaranteed. Kingfisher information desk in Virpazar on Google Maps.
A short excursion to the Cijevna waterfall

The Cijevna waterfall near Kuce Rakica, known as Podgorica's Niagara, drops over rocks into the stony riverbed. We recommend it for families as a short outing to the river and waterfall, without a longer hike.
The waterfall's flow can drop considerably in summer. The ground beside the river is rocky, so keep small children close and away from the edge. Read more about this stretch of the Cijevna in our waterfall guide. Cijevna waterfall on Google Maps.
Questions about a family stay
Do you need a car for family activities in Podgorica?
You do not need a car for a stay in the city: some outings can be combined on foot, and others reached by public transport or taxi. Mareza, Martinici, Virpazar and the Cijevna waterfall require a separate journey. A car suits families planning several of these excursions, while transport can be arranged for an individual trip. Arrange a child car seat with your rental company or transport provider. Practical transport information.
What can you do with children when it rains or gets very hot?
Cineplexx and the City Theater's children's shows offer indoor outings. Choose a movie by its language and running time, and a show by its subject and recommended age. Both depend on the schedule during your stay. In summer, the water park at Mareza provides another swimming option, while city walks are better suited to mornings or early evenings.
Which activities suit younger and older children?
For young children, we would start with the playground at Krusevac and the children's area in Bemax Park. The yellow course at Gorica Adventure Park is for children aged four to eight. With older children, you can take longer walks, use the cycle path or choose an age-appropriate show or movie.
