5 days in Bar: city and day trips
Bar is an unusual coastal city: its medieval center stands a few kilometers from the sea, among olive groves below Rumija. Five days here leave time to explore that older Bar and still spend three long days at the beach.

The streets and buildings of Stari Bar
Stari Bar is an entire former settlement on a rocky site below Rumija. Streets and the remains of churches, palaces and olive mills can be traced among the surviving walls and restored buildings. The clock tower and hammam preserve traces of the Ottoman period, bringing different eras of the town into a single walk.
The archaeological site visit takes about 150 minutes, approximately from 9:45 to 12:15. Including driving, parking, walking and buying the admission ticket, the activity takes 3 hours and 15 minutes.
The Stara carsija parking lot is reached from waterfront Bar, with the last part of the approach on foot. Kulturni centar Bar lists opening hours of 8-20 and adult admission of 5 EUR for the site.
Stara carsija below the walls
Stara carsija, the old bazaar, begins outside the entrance to the archaeological site, with shops and restaurants along a stone-paved street. Daily life and trade continue here, while the remains of the former settlement are explored behind the walls.
The descent and walk through the bazaar take about 45 minutes, until around 13:00. Lunch is later in Topolica, after the visit to Stara maslina.
Stara maslina in Mirovica
Stara maslina, the old olive tree in Mirovica, is part of Bar's tradition of reconciliation: according to local lore, feuding families met beside it. Laboratory analysis estimated its age at more than two thousand years. In the visitor area, you can see the large, branching trunk of this old tree up close.
The visit lasts around 35 minutes, from about 13:30 to 14:05. The drive from Stari Bar takes about 15 minutes, with another 20 minutes for parking and the walk.
Kuca maslina lists opening hours of 8-18, Monday-Sunday, for the site in Mirovica. Adult admission is 2 EUR. This is admission to the tree, separate from the store in Stari Bar.
Lunch and a break in Topolica
After Mirovica, you return to Topolica, the waterfront part of Bar beside the palace park. Lunch and a longer break come before the museum visit.
The estimate includes 20 minutes for the drive, 10 for parking and 5 for walking. Lunch can begin around 14:45, with an hour for the meal and 45 minutes to rest.
The palace museum and the end of the day in Topolica
King Nikola's Palace in Topolica was a summer residence beside the sea. The main building, guard towers and park with rare tree species preserve the setting of the 19th-century palace complex. The main palace now houses the Local History Museum, whose permanent exhibition traces the Bar area from prehistory to the first half of the 20th century. Archaeological finds and everyday objects add to what you saw among the remains of Stari Bar in the morning.
After lunch and a rest, the palace is reached on foot. The museum visit takes about 60 minutes, approximately from 16:40 to 17:40, with the walks in both directions bringing the activity to an hour and 20 minutes. The day ends in Topolica around 17:50.
Kulturni centar Bar lists opening hours of 8-20 and adult admission of 4 EUR for the Local History Museum.
Day 2: Four hours at Utjeha and a quieter afternoon in Bar
Why this day is worth planning
Utjeha offers a longer stay in a small cove, while the other two beach days are on more spacious shores. After swimming and lunch, you return to Bar during the afternoon.
