Airport transport to Igalo

Tivat Airport (TIV) and transport to Igalo

Tivat Airport (TIV) is connected to Igalo by the Lepetane-Kamenari ferry, with a direct drive of about an hour. After crossing the Bay of Kotor, the road follows the western shore through Herceg Novi to Igalo, so Igalo should be named as the transfer destination. Dubrovnik is a closer cross-border alternative, approached through Sutorina. Tivat offers a domestic arrival without a national border, while Podgorica involves a much longer onward journey by road.

01

Getting from the airport to Igalo

From TIV, you can continue to Igalo by direct taxi or rental car. The bus journey starts at the station in Bonici and includes departures bound for Igalo, with a separate transfer from the terminal to that station. This section helps you choose a connection, while tickets and stations in both directions are covered in the shared transport details.

Bus via the station in Tivat

Buses to Igalo leave from Tivat Bus Station in Bonici. A local taxi takes you there from the terminal and is paid for separately from the intercity ticket. Direct departures have Igalo as their destination, while a ticket to Herceg Novi ends at its bus station and requires another local journey. Some departures to Igalo are more than five hours apart, making the timetable an important part of this choice.

Taxi transport from the airport

Red Taxi in Tivat offers a direct transfer from TIV to Igalo. The shorter route uses the Lepetane-Kamenari ferry and continues along the coast to Igalo, without crossing a national border. When booking, distinguish Igalo from Herceg Novi, as this service has separate fares for the two destinations. Local taxi contacts for journeys around town and the return trip from your address are listed in the practical information.

Car rental at the airport

A car collected at TIV connects your arrival in Igalo with trips to Orjen, Perast and Kotor. Along the Igalo waterfront and the Pet Danica promenade, you get around on foot, so the car stays parked on those days. Rental offers show the vehicles available for your dates, with airport collection and return conditions.

Details and recommendations for your arrival

The transport and parking section covers tickets and stations in both directions, including bus arrivals in Igalo. The transport recommendations discuss car rental during your stay and a direct taxi transfer from TIV.

02

Returning from Igalo to the airport

The return journey from Igalo to TIV runs through Herceg Novi to Kamenari, then continues from Lepetane to the terminal after the ferry crossing. About an hour refers to the direct drive, with extra time if you wait to board. This section covers the deadline for reaching the airport and arranging a return transfer or car drop-off. The bus return to Bonici is covered in the shared transport details.

When to arrive at TIV

You should reach TIV at least two hours before scheduled take-off. Check-in opens 120 minutes before departure and normally closes 30 minutes before the flight. If your airline requires an earlier arrival, its deadline applies. The drive from Igalo and rental car return therefore need to be completed before the time you allow for the terminal.

Return trip and car drop-off

Book the return taxi from your address in Igalo to TIV. The arrival fare does not automatically reserve the return journey, so confirm the price and pick-up time with the service. The shorter route uses the Kamenari-Lepetane ferry, while the road route without the ferry goes around the bay. For a rental car, agree the drop-off location and inspection time with the agency, especially when returning it at a different airport.

Transport details for your return to the airport

The transport and parking section includes Igalo-Tivat departures and the connection from Bonici to the terminal. The transport recommendations cover direct transfers and rental conditions for your stay and return flight.

Bus, train and parking

Transport from TIV to Igalo

The bus route connects Bonici with Igalo, with a separate journey from the terminal to Tivat Bus Station. Below are the departure and arrival locations, tickets and timetables for both directions. Parking at TIV follows the bus details, for meeting passengers or leaving a vehicle during a trip.

Where buses arrive in Igalo

The stop near the Institute and Igalo Sports Centre is on Jadranska magistrala. This is a different arrival point from a ticket to Herceg Novi, which ends at the station at Dr. Jovana Bijelica 1. The exact departure and arrival points are those on your chosen ticket, as buses serving the Herceg Novi riviera do not all use the same station.

Bus - first reach the station in Bonici

Buses to Igalo do not leave from outside the TIV terminal. First, take a local taxi to Tivat Bus Station in Bonici, where the intercity journey begins. You can buy a ticket at the station or through BusTicket4.me.

Tivat Bus Station

A one-way Tivat-Igalo ticket costs €4-9 per passenger, depending on the departure. Shorter journeys between the stations take about 45 minutes, while other services take longer through the Bay of Kotor. That time excludes the journey from TIV to Bonici and the wait for the bus. The local taxi to the station is paid for separately.

Some Tivat-Igalo departures are more than five hours apart, and the return direction has gaps of over four hours. Tivat-Igalo departures list times for arrival, while Igalo-Tivat covers the return to Bonici. Local transport is again needed from Bonici to the terminal. Check your ticket for the boarding point in Igalo, as departures from Herceg Novi use a different station.

Parking at Tivat Airport

Parking at TIV costs €2 per started hour, or €15 for a day. The hourly rate suits meeting or seeing off passengers, while the daily rate allows the car to stay by the terminal during a trip.

Tivat Airport parking

The car park is open 24 hours, and charging starts on entry. After paying, you have 10 minutes to leave. A lost ticket costs €50, a separate charge from the daily parking rate.

Dubrovnik and Podgorica as alternatives

05

Dubrovnik Airport

Approximately 30 minutes of direct driving, with the Croatia-Montenegro border crossing.

Dubrovnik approaches Igalo from the west, across the border and through Sutorina. A direct transfer is a short onward journey by road, while the bus goes first to Gruz, then Herceg Novi and finally Igalo. Both routes are covered here, along with the rental conditions for taking a car from Croatia into Montenegro.

From the DBV terminal to Igalo

The direct drive from the DBV terminal to Igalo takes approximately 30 minutes, excluding border waiting time. You cross the border at Debeli Brijeg, then continue through Sutorina to Igalo. The bus route through Gruz and Herceg Novi is therefore much longer than this direct road connection. For the return flight, allow for possible border delays as well as the drive.

Car rental at Dubrovnik Airport

A car collected in Dubrovnik requires written permission from the rental agency to enter Montenegro and confirmation of suitable insurance. If you want to return it at TIV, also request confirmation of an international drop-off. Crossing the border and returning a car in another country are separate rental conditions and may carry separate charges.

Taxi transport from the airport

A standard DBV-Igalo transfer with Vijad Cavtat costs €100 for a vehicle carrying up to three passengers. Approximately 30 minutes is the direct driving time, while the border may extend the journey. Give your address in Igalo, passenger count and direction of travel when booking. The return to DBV is arranged separately for departure from that address.

Bus via Gruz

Platanus departs from outside arrivals and runs to Dubrovnik Bus Station in Gruz. A one-way ticket costs €10 per passenger, and the ride to Gruz takes approximately 35 minutes. You can buy a ticket at the airport counter or through Platanus. Airport departures follow flight arrivals.

Dubrovnik Bus Station, Gruz

From Gruz, FlixBus runs to Herceg Novi, with tickets from €30.99 per passenger and at least three departures daily. The shortest journey takes one hour and 15 minutes, so the two buses to Herceg Novi cost from €40.99. The final leg to Igalo starts there and is paid for separately.

Continue to Igalo by taxi or a Blue Line local bus, with a fare of €1.50. Line 1 Igalo-Kamenari generally runs every half hour, or hourly on Sundays. Line 2 Igalo-Meljine runs every 40 minutes, except on Sundays. For the boarding point of the local connection to Igalo, call +382 31 336 002. On the return Herceg Novi-Dubrovnik journey, the shortest ride takes one hour and 20 minutes, and Platanus provides the Gruz-DBV connection.

Parking at Dubrovnik Airport

At P1, P2 and P5, a stay from ten minutes to one hour costs €4 from 1 May to 31 October, or €3 from 1 November to 30 April. For 12-24 hours, the prices are €20 and €14 respectively. P10 has a daily rate of €13 in the first period and €8 in the second. The rate depends on the exit date. The DBV parking layout and rates help you choose a car park at this terminal.

06

Podgorica Airport

About two hours and five minutes of direct driving, or by bus through Podgorica.

Podgorica is a domestic alternative for Igalo when a flight to TGD suits your plans. The onward road journey is longer than from Tivat, and the bus trip has two legs with a change at Podgorica Bus Station. The direct drive and those bus connections are covered separately here, with fares and departures for the return trip.

From the TGD terminal to Igalo

The direct journey from TGD to Igalo takes approximately two hours and five minutes by the shorter ferry route. Driving around the bay or taking another road route takes longer. The bus goes first to Podgorica and then to Igalo, with a separate wait between the two departures.

Car rental at Podgorica Airport

A car collected at TGD connects the longer journey to Igalo with later trips around Montenegro. If you fly from TIV at the end of your stay, request a booking with drop-off at that airport. Collection in Podgorica and return in Tivat should be confirmed in the same offer, including any extra charge, to avoid driving back solely to return the car.

Taxi transport from the airport

A direct TGD-Igalo transfer with TravelKotor costs €145 for a vehicle carrying one to four passengers. This is the provider's fare for arrival from TGD, including luggage and a meet-and-greet. Give your flight and address in Igalo when booking, and arrange the return journey for your own departure time. Contact the service on +382 69 047 037.

Bus via Podgorica

The ticket from TGD to Podgorica Main Bus Station costs €3-5 per passenger. You can buy it on the bus or through BusTicket4.me. The bus leaves from outside the terminal, and the ride to the city station takes about 15 minutes. The second leg towards Igalo starts there.

Bus station outside the TGD terminal

At the city station, buy a second ticket for Podgorica-Igalo, costing €11-12 per passenger. Shorter departures take two hours and 47 minutes. Including the airport ticket, the two legs cost €14-17 in total, while reaching the city station and waiting are not included in the intercity ride time. Igalo-Podgorica lists return departures, after which you continue by bus towards TGD.

Parking at Podgorica Airport

Parking at TGD costs €3 per started hour or €10 per day. A lost ticket costs €30. The daily rate applies to leaving a car at this terminal, not to parking during your stay in Igalo.
