Useful shortcuts

Local transport and getting around

You can explore central Tivat, including Pine and Porto Montenegro, on foot. Taxis are an option for trips from the airport or to Donja Lastva, while a rental car is useful for journeys beyond the waterfront center.

Taxis and on-demand transportation

For a trip from the airport to the center or Donja Lastva, you can call the local services Red Taxi, Djir Taxi, or MB Taxi.

  • Red Taxi (short code)19729
  • Djir Taxi (short code)19777
  • MB Taxi (short code)19503

Car rental

In Tivat, you can choose airport pickup or delivery to an address in the city. For delivery, enter the exact address and time in the search, and any delivery fee is shown in the offer.

Pickup at a rental office is available with offers that support this option. You can compare offers for your dates and pickup location on the Hire And Travel page for Tivat.

Mobile internet and communication

For mobile service during a visit to Tivat, you can visit the MTEL store or buy an eSIM online. A physical SIM is useful for a phone without eSIM support, while the package terms address calls and regional roaming separately.

SIM cards and where to buy them

The MTEL store in Tivat is on 21. novembra Street (unnumbered). A physical tourist SIM is also an option for a phone that does not support eSIM.

eSIM and activation

An MTEL eSIM requires a phone that supports the technology. Your identity is verified during purchase, after which the QR code for installation arrives by email.

Calls and roaming

An MTEL tourist package includes internet access, but the starting balance for chargeable calls and texts is €0. Regular phone calls are therefore charged separately from the included internet allowance.

A separate, smaller data allowance applies when you travel from Montenegro to other Western Balkan countries. For example, the Mtel turist 15 package includes 500 GB in Montenegro and 9.92 GB for regional roaming.

Stations and onward travel

Stations and departure points

Tivat Bus Station serves intercity departures. It is separate from the old bus stop in the town center, so use the bus station location for an intercity trip.

Connections to other destinations

Tivat has no passenger train station. You can arrive by train in Bar or Podgorica, then continue separately to Tivat by bus or other road transportation.

The ferry from Lepetane to Kamenari provides an onward connection toward Herceg Novi and the western side of the Bay of Kotor.

Timetables and tickets

You can search intercity departures from Tivat by date and destination on BusTicket4.me. The site also lets you buy a bus ticket.

Money and payments

Currency and payment methods

Tivat uses the euro, as does the rest of Montenegro. Cards are widely accepted in hotels, restaurants, stores, and gas stations.

ATMs and currency exchange

NLB uses its cash exchange rate for exchanging foreign banknotes, and the service is available during branch opening hours. Its rate for noncash exchange is separate and does not apply to this transaction.

Healthcare services

Pharmacies

Riva Pharmacy on Obala Marsala Tita is also open on weekends. Its regular hours are Monday to Friday from 7:00 to 20:00, Saturday from 8:00 to 16:00, and Sunday from 8:00 to 14:00. Its summer hours are 7:00 to 22:00 on weekdays and Saturdays, and 8:00 to 15:00 on Sundays.

Routine healthcare

Tivat Health Center on Istarska Street provides general medicine and pediatric services. During the tourist season, it also opens a clinic for tourists.

Driving in the city

When a car is useful

Gornja Lastva is on the slopes of Vrmac, unlike Donja Lastva on the coast. For that excursion or a trip toward Radovici and Plavi Horizonti, a car lets you travel beyond the walkable part of town.

Traffic and access to the city

Street parking in Tivat is divided into the Red and Yellow zones. Arsenal and the airport parking lot have separate payment terms.

Questions about staying in Tivat

Is a ticket bought on BusTicket4.me valid if shown on a phone?

BusTicket4.me requires a printed copy of its tickets when boarding the bus. Some carriers allow an exception, but a PDF on a phone is not sufficient for every departure booked through the site.

Who registers a foreign guest's stay in Tivat?

When you stay at a hotel or use another accommodation provider, the provider handles registration. If you are visiting friends as a tourist without using an accommodation provider, you register your stay yourself through the local tourism organization or the relevant authority.

Is street parking charged on Sundays and late at night?

In the Red and Yellow zones, parking is charged on weekdays and Saturdays from 7:00 to 23:00. Sundays and hours outside that range are not included in this schedule. This applies to street parking zones, not separate parking lots such as Arsenal or the airport, which have their own operating hours and charges.
