Why this itinerary is worth planning

There are four full hours for swimming and rest, approximately from 9:30 to 13:30.
Lunch and a long rest near Mala Plaza
The restaurants behind Mala Plaza offer somewhere to have lunch close to your accommodation before the later climb into the Old Town. The walk back from the swimming spot is estimated at 30 minutes, putting lunch around 14:00.
An hour for lunch and an hour and a half of rest leave you ready to continue walking around 16:30.
Stone streets and walls of the Old Town
In Ulcinj Old Town, narrow passages lead between closely packed stone houses. Renaissance and Baroque details survive on the buildings, alongside separate structures from the Ottoman period. The tower on the highest plateau gives the upper part of the Old Town its distinctive outline, while former palaces to the south now accommodate guests.
The visit takes place outdoors, along public streets and the town walls. The climb from the waterfront center is estimated at 20 minutes, followed by 90 minutes of sightseeing, from around 16:50 to 18:20. The 15-minute walk back brings the day to a close near Mala Plaza around 18:35.
This walk stays outside the museum. The navigation link leads to the upper part of the Old Town near the museum, from where the walk continues along public streets.
Day 2: Stari Bar, the Old Olive Tree and the palace museum
Why this day is worth planning
Stari Bar preserves the remains of a settlement below Mount Rumija, while the palace museum displays objects from the history of the Bar area. Together with Mirovica, these visits make a substantial cultural day trip and the longest sightseeing day of the stay.

| Part of the day | Activity | Total time |
|---|---|---|
| Morning | Stari Bar below Mount Rumija | 4 h |
| Midday | Stara Carsija and lunch below the walls | 2 h 15 min |
| Afternoon | The Old Olive Tree at Mirovica | 1 h 15 min |
| Late afternoon | The museum in King Nikola's Palace and the return to Ulcinj | 3 h |
Stari Bar below Mount Rumija
Inside the walls of Stari Bar are the remains of churches, palaces and olive mills, while the clock tower and hammam recall the Ottoman period. The plan allows 150 minutes to explore the archaeological site.
Leaving the waterfront center of Ulcinj around 9:00 brings you to the site entrance around 10:30. The preceding 90 minutes include walking to the car, approximately 45 minutes of driving, parking, the walk to the gate and buying a ticket. The visit itself lasts until 13:00.
Leave the car at the Stara Carsija parking lot below the entrance. Bar Cultural Center lists site opening hours of 8-20 and adult admission of 5 EUR.
Stara Carsija and lunch below the walls
Beyond the gate begins the stone street of Stara Carsija, lined with shops and restaurants. After the ruins within the walls, this is the part of Stari Bar where people still live and work. The descent and walk through the old bazaar are estimated at 45 minutes.
Lunch in the bazaar fits around 13:45, before continuing to Mirovica. An hour for the meal and half an hour to rest let you continue around 15:15.
The Old Olive Tree at Mirovica
The Old Olive Tree stands in a landscaped area at Mirovica. A laboratory estimate places it among olive trees more than two thousand years old, while the local story of feuding families making peace here explains Mirovica's significance to the local community.
The route continues by car from the bazaar to Mirovica. Walking to the car, driving, parking and reaching the tree are estimated at 35 minutes. The visit takes another 35 minutes, from around 15:50 to 16:25. The walk back to the car adds five minutes.
House of Olives lists daily opening hours of 8-18 for the Mirovica site. Adult admission is 2 EUR. These hours apply to the area around the tree, rather than the showroom in the bazaar.
The museum in King Nikola's Palace and the return to Ulcinj
King Nikola's summer residence stands by the sea, in a park with rare tree species. The main palace now houses the Regional Museum: archaeological finds and objects from life in the Bar area span periods from prehistory to the first half of the 20th century.
The drive from Mirovica to Topolica, parking and the walk to the museum are estimated at 40 minutes. The visit takes an hour, approximately from 17:10 to 18:10. Walking to the car, the return drive of around 45 minutes, parking in Ulcinj and walking back to your accommodation bring the day to an end around 19:30.
Bar Cultural Center lists opening hours of 8-20 for the Regional Museum and adult admission of 4 EUR.
Day 3: Four hours at Miami Beach and lunch by the Bojana River
Why this day is worth planning

There are four full hours for swimming and rest, from around 9:45 to 13:45. Getting here and the later drive toward the Bojana are counted separately.
Lunch on the bank of the Bojana River
Misko is a fish restaurant on the right bank of the Bojana, near the bridge. From the restaurant's stretch of riverbank, the view follows the river toward its mouth.
Walking to the car, driving from Miami, parking and reaching the restaurant are estimated at 40 minutes, including around 25 minutes of driving. Lunch can begin around 14:25, with an hour for the meal and 45 minutes to rest. Lunch at Misko depends on confirmation that the kitchen is open and guest parking is available on your date of visit.
Back to Ulcinj after a rest
After the meal and rest, around 16:10, head back toward Ulcinj. Walking to the car, driving with extra time for summer traffic, parking and the final walk are estimated at an hour and 15 minutes. You reach the waterfront center around 17:25, leaving the evening free.
Day 4: Four hours of swimming in the pebbly bay of Valdanos
Why this day is worth planning
Valdanos suits a day with less moving around. The bay between two headlands and the old olive grove on the approach offer a different landscape from Long Beach. After swimming, there is time for a longer rest in Ulcinj.

Valdanos: four hours on the pebbly shore
Valdanos forms a narrow horseshoe between Mavrijan and Mendra. The pebble beach lies along the green edge of the bay, with an old olive grove behind it.
There are four hours for swimming and rest, from around 9:50 to 13:50. Lunch follows the return to Ulcinj.

Day 5: Virpazar and a two-hour boat trip on Lake Skadar
Why this day is worth planning
The trip to Virpazar offers a lakeside landscape instead of another day on the coast. The two-hour boat trip passes through lake vegetation and onto open water near Vranjina, with a longer drive from Ulcinj and back.

The two-hour Kingfisher boat trip alternates between narrow passages through vegetation and open water near Vranjina. Broad water lily leaves cover parts of the quieter channels, while Lesendro Fortress is viewed from the water.
The two-hour departure at 12:30 must be confirmed in advance for your date of visit. You return to the same meeting point in Virpazar around 14:30. National Park admission is included in this specific offer, while lunch is paid for separately.

Planning your summer stay
Your base and time on the road
Travel times are calculated from Mala Plaza and the nearby Old Town parking lot. Accommodation in Ulcinj farther away will change those times. Access to your car also matters on the four days that involve driving. In peak season, delays on the roads out of town can lengthen the day, so driving estimates include extra time compared with lighter traffic.
For parking locations and payment methods, see parking in Ulcinj.
Weather conditions for the boat trip
Strong winds or poor weather may lead Kingfisher to change the boat, reschedule the departure or cancel the trip.
