Luštica by car from Igalo, with Rose, Žanjice and Luštica Bay
Luštica forms the southern side of the entrance to the Bay of Kotor, with olive groves around stone villages linked by narrow inland roads. In Rose, the houses stand beside the old harbour, while the peninsula’s southern coast faces the Adriatic. Between these two shores, you encounter a landscape long shaped by seafaring and olive growing.

Why set aside a day for this trip
On Luštica, you can explore a Boka seafaring village and take a long break by the open sea. The day allows a walk along an old harbour, a swim and lunch before a final visit to a modern marina. A car links shores separated by the rural interior, so your day can extend beyond a single boat service or one cove.

The estimate includes visits, lunch, both ferry crossings and waiting reserve.
01From Igalo to Rose by ferry and car
1 h 35 min driving · 40 min for the ferry · 1 h for Rose

Leave Igalo in the morning for Kamenari and take your car across to Lepetane on the ferry. Allow about 35 minutes to drive to Kamenari and another 40 minutes for the queue, boarding, crossing and disembarkation. From the Tivat shore, continue through Tivat and Krašići towards Rose. Allow about an hour for this road section. The final stretches follow narrow village roads, so the short distance across the water does not mean a short drive.
Open the prepared route for navigation. On a phone, use consecutive parts 1-5 in the map section to retain every stop and both ferry crossings. In Rose, leave the car in the car park at the entrance and walk down to the harbour. Allow 15 minutes for parking and the walk in both directions, then 45 minutes along the waterfront. Check the parking charge at the entrance.
Budget €8-10 for the two crossings with a small passenger car. The official online shop currently shows €4 per crossing, while its linked tariff lists €5. Check the fare and vehicle category before buying. An online ticket’s QR code can be shown on your phone or printed. The separate discounted fare for Tivat and Herceg Novi residents does not automatically apply to tourists staying in Igalo.
02Drive to Žanjice and time by the sea
32 min driving · 1 h 25 min for parking, access and the sea

Allow about half an hour to drive from Rose to Žanjice. The road returns towards the junction above the village before descending to the cove. Do not select the coastal walking link as a driving shortcut in navigation. The prepared section ends at the surface car park by the southern end of the beach. Parking is charged, so check the current price on arrival.
Allow ten minutes for parking and the approach to the shore, followed by an hour and fifteen minutes at Žanjice. That leaves time to walk beside the pebble cove, look towards the entrance to the Bay of Kotor and swim when conditions permit. This is your seaside break, without an additional boat trip. The car stays in the same car park during lunch.
03Lunch at Porto Adriatic restaurant
5 min walking · 1 h for lunch · 10 min back to the car

From Žanjice, walk to Porto Adriatic restaurant. It stands beside the cove, so lunch does not require another drive. The restaurant is approximately 270 metres from the car park, with a full hour allowed for the meal. Including the walk there and back, this stage takes about an hour and fifteen minutes.
The Marović family’s restaurant has garden tables among the greenery. Check opening and availability for your trip date on its website, especially outside the summer season. After lunch, return to the same car park and continue towards Radovići.
04A short detour to Pržna and Plavi horizonti
32 min driving · 1 h 5 min for Pržna including access

Allow about 32 minutes to drive from Žanjice to the municipal Plavi horizonti car park. Visiting here before Luštica Bay adds about five kilometres to the full driving route. Sandy Pržna and its pine-fringed shore offer a worthwhile change from the pebbles at Žanjice.
Leave the car in the marked Plavi horizonti car park. Allow about five minutes to park, roughly 25 minutes to walk to the cove and back, and about 35 minutes beside the water. The full stop takes about an hour and five minutes. Parking Servis Tivat lists €1 per started hour, so allow €2 for this visit. A day ticket costs 3.50 €.
05A final visit to Luštica Bay
8 min driving · 1 h 25 min for the marina including access

The drive from Plavi horizonti parking to the visitor approach for Marina Village takes about eight minutes. The prepared section leads to the surface car park above the western part of the village. Follow the visitor entrance, since hotel and resident access points are different. Parking is charged at the current rate shown at the entrance.
Allow five minutes to park, about 20 minutes in total to walk down and back, and a full hour for the marina and waterfront. Walk past the berths and waterfront buildings to the breakwater lighthouse, then return along the promenade. The visit covers Marina Village. Hotel beaches, pools and golf have separate conditions of use and are outside this walk.
06Return to Igalo by ferry
1 h 8 min driving · 40 min for the ferry
From the Marina Village car park, return through Radovići and Tivat to Lepetane. Allow about 35 minutes for this drive. The car now crosses by ferry from Lepetane to Kamenari, leaving about 33 minutes of driving to Igalo. Another 40 minutes is allowed for the queue and all parts of the return ferry crossing.
The total of about 12 hours includes both car-ferry crossings, all visits, walking approaches, lunch and half an hour of general reserve. Each ferry block includes 20 minutes for the queue and another 20 for boarding, sailing and disembarkation. A longer queue at the shore can extend the day.
Trip highlights
01Rose: a seafaring village at the bay entrance
Rose lies on Luštica’s northwestern shore, opposite Herceg Novi. Closely packed stone houses stand beside the harbour, with a waterfront lane between their facades and the sea.
Its position at the entrance to the Bay of Kotor once gave Rose a much greater role than the small village suggests today. Sailing ships sheltered here, and the village had customs facilities, a harbour master’s office and quarantine for seafarers entering the bay.
Much of the village took shape in the 17th and 18th centuries as Boka’s maritime trade developed.
02Žanjice: a pebble cove behind olive groves
Žanjice is one of the well-known excursion coves in the Herceg Novi part of Luštica. Its shore, about 300 metres long, is recognisable by its white pebbles, backed by olive groves and a hillside of Mediterranean vegetation. The cove belongs to the outer Bay of Kotor and looks towards its sea entrance.
Cape Arza shelters the outer side of the cove. Restaurants and the pier have helped Žanjice develop as a destination reached from both land and sea. Boats leaving here for the Blue Cave continue along Luštica’s seaward coast, where the cave has no road access.
Beside the shore is the Church of Saint John, built in 1881 on the site of an older church of the same dedication. You can approach it during the walk without planning an interior visit.
03Pržna: sand and pines at Plavi horizonti
Pržna cove is also known as Plavi horizonti. It lies on the Tivat side of Luštica, with a sandy beach and pine woods around the shore. Tivat’s tourist organisation singles it out for its combination of sand, a sheltered cove and pines.
Rocky shore continues beyond the sand, so this brief visit need not become a second long swim. From the sides of the cove, you can look along the sandy arc and the pines above it.
04Luštica Bay: a village around a marina and breakwater
Marina Village is the modern waterfront part of Luštica Bay, planned around a marina. Mediterranean-style waterfront buildings, ground-floor businesses and a paved promenade surround the yacht berths. Behind them, homes rise up the hillside. From the water’s edge, you can see how the village, berths and open sea relate to each other.
The marina currently lists 115 berths for yachts up to 45 metres long. For a visitor arriving by road, the waterfront, breakwater and lighthouse give you a way to explore it: walking out towards the edge of the sheltered harbour reveals the whole marina from the opposite side.
Questions before a Luštica day trip
Can I do the complete route without a car?
You need a car for the complete loop, taking it across on the ferry in both directions to reach the peninsula’s separated stops. Boats from Herceg Novi can reach individual places, but they do not provide the complete land-based itinerary described here.
Should I use hotel parking to walk around Luštica Bay?
Do not assume The Chedi hotel parking is the access point for a walk around the marina. The prepared navigation leads to the visitor car park above the western part of Marina Village, followed by a walk down. Hotel parking and resident garages have different access arrangements. Check the visitor parking rate at its entrance, since the hotel’s parking tariff does not apply to this approach.
Can I add the Blue Cave to this driving route?
The Blue Cave is reached from the sea. Boat rides are offered from Žanjice, but you leave the car ashore and need additional time for them. Sailing to the cave is not included in this trip’s roughly 12-hour estimate or costs. Set aside a separate part of your stay for that excursion rather than cutting the main visits and return short.
