Before you go
The Dr Simo Milosevic Institute began as a spa treatment centre in 1949. That history explains why Igalo welcomes rehabilitation guests alongside visitors staying by the sea.
A tour gives access to part of Tito’s former residence, including meeting rooms and apartments. The Institute publishes visiting times. Walking past on the promenade does not provide unrestricted entry.
Yes. Stara Banja has sand and a long stretch of shallow water.
The promenade follows the coast, but residential streets above it may rise uphill. Check the actual walking route from your accommodation to the sea before booking, rather than its advertised straight-line distance.
Herceg Novi is accessible on foot or by local bus. For Kotor and Perast, check both outward and return connections via Herceg Novi bus station. Boat excursions depend on the season and the operator.
JP Morsko dobro publishes beach-specific test results in its bathing-water monitoring application. Choose the beach and sampling date. An earlier result or the water’s appearance cannot establish its present quality.
A day can be spent on the Igalo seafront and in Herceg Novi. During a longer stay, add a separate outing to the inner bay or Orjen. Agree the length of an Institute programme directly with the Institute, apart from sightseeing plans.
Summer brings more opportunities for swimming and seasonal boat trips. The coastal walk to Herceg Novi and a visit to Villa Galeb are also reasons to come outside the bathing season, with tour dates and Institute arrangements checked in advance.
