Family houses and tourism
In the early days of tourism in Petrovac, guests stayed in private rooms as well as small hotels. Today, houses along the promenade offer rooms and apartments, and a family home in Medinski Krs also offers apartments.
01Central waterfront
Older houses stand side by side along Petrovac's promenade, with stone facades and pitched tiled roofs. Their windows face the promenade and beach. The newer buildings on the slope behind them are taller and larger.
The promenade runs directly beside the beach, lined with cafes, restaurants and houses offering rooms and apartments. Along part of the waterfront, terraces with awnings and umbrellas occupy the space in front of the ground floors.
Near the end of the waterfront is a pier with a mandrac, a mooring area for local residents' boats.

02Medinski Krs
In Medinski Krs there are family houses with gardens and olive trees, as well as larger buildings with broad rendered facades and balconies on several floors. The neighbourhood spans several streets on the slope towards the main road.
The former core of Medinski Krs was a cluster of Medin family houses on a hill above Petrovac's waterfront. Below this core is Mirista, an archaeological site with a Roman mosaic. The stone houses of the Medin core, also called Krs od Medina, stood close together, with passageways between them.
Later construction changed part of this cluster: a multi-storey building was built beside one stone house, its upper floors higher than the old house's pitched roof.
In the present-day neighbourhood, a Medin family house offers apartments. Stone retaining walls divide its grounds into terraces, and outdoor stairs connect the levels. One of the house's terraces overlooks the town's lower rooftops and Petrovac Bay.
