Airport transport to Herceg Novi

Tivat Airport (TIV) and transport to Herceg Novi

Tivat Airport (TIV) is connected to Herceg Novi by road via the Lepetane-Kamenari ferry, with a drive of around 45 minutes. The crossing cuts out the drive around the bay and takes you to the Herceg Novi coast through Bijela and Meljine. For Igalo, Kumbor or another place on the riviera, give your precise destination, as a transfer to Herceg Novi does not automatically cover every nearby address. Dubrovnik is a nearby alternative across the border, while Podgorica offers a longer journey within Montenegro.

01

Getting from the airport to Herceg Novi

From the TIV terminal, you can continue to Herceg Novi by taxi or rental car. The bus journey starts at the town bus station in Bonici, which you reach by separate transport first. This section explains the choice between those options, while the full bus description remains in the shared transport section.

Bus via the station in Tivat

The bus to Herceg Novi leaves from Tivat Bus Station in Bonici. Take a local taxi there from the terminal, then the intercity bus finishes at the Herceg Novi station on Dr. Jovana Bijelica Street. The bus ticket covers that second leg, while transport to Bonici is paid separately. Some scheduled departures are more than two hours apart, so it is worth checking the next actual departure before choosing this connection.

Taxi transport from the airport

Red Taxi in Tivat offers a direct transfer from TIV to Herceg Novi and a separate fare for Igalo. The drive to town usually uses the Lepetane-Kamenari ferry rather than going around the entire bay. Give your town address or the specific place on the riviera when booking. Contacts for Herceg Novi taxi services, which you can also use for later journeys around town, are in the practical information guide.

Car rental at the airport

A car collected at TIV can connect your arrival with trips from Herceg Novi to Orjen and other places in the Bay of Kotor. The Old Town and Pet Danica Promenade are explored on foot, so it is worth clarifying where you will park when booking accommodation. Rental offers show vehicles for your dates and their collection terms, including airport arrangements.

Details and recommendations for your arrival

The transport and parking section contains departures, ticket purchases and station locations for both directions. In the transport recommendation, you can read the detailed car rental and taxi options for Herceg Novi or Igalo.

02

Returning from Herceg Novi to the airport

The return route to TIV runs from Herceg Novi to Kamenari and continues to the terminal after the ferry crossing. Around 45 minutes refers to the direct drive, while the wait to board can lengthen the trip. This section covers the airport arrival deadline and arrangements for a return transfer or car drop-off. Return bus departures are in the shared transport description.

When to arrive at TIV

Arrive at TIV at least two hours before your scheduled flight. Check-in opens 120 minutes before departure and usually closes 30 minutes before it. If your airline requires earlier arrival, its deadline applies. Finish the drive from Herceg Novi and the rental car handover before the time you have set aside for the terminal.

Return trip and car drop-off

Book the return taxi for your specific address in Herceg Novi, Igalo or wherever you are staying. Confirm the fare toward TIV and the pickup time with the service, as an inbound airport fare is not automatically a return booking. The shorter route uses the Kamenari-Lepetane ferry, while driving around the bay is another option if the crossing is not used. For a rental car, agree on the drop-off location and inspection time, especially when returning it to a different airport from the collection point.

Transport details for your return to the airport

The transport and parking section contains the Herceg Novi-Tivat connection and the onward journey from Bonici to the terminal. The Transport recommendation section covers direct transfers and rental terms for your stay and return flight.

The Tivat-Herceg Novi departures timetable gives the times for your arrival, while Herceg Novi-Tivat covers the return to Bonici, from where you continue to the terminal. Dubrovnik and Podgorica as alternatives

05

Dubrovnik Airport

Around 45 minutes by direct road transfer, crossing between Croatia and Montenegro.

Dubrovnik is a nearby alternative for reaching Herceg Novi, especially when its flights suit a trip through Croatia and Montenegro. From the terminal, you can continue by direct transfer or by bus via Gruz. Both routes are explained here, together with the conditions for taking a rental car across the border.

From the DBV terminal to Herceg Novi

A direct transfer from Dubrovnik Airport to Herceg Novi takes around 45 minutes without a long wait at the border. The bus journey first runs from the terminal to Gruz, then continues on another service to Herceg Novi. Both options cross the Croatia-Montenegro border, so the return trip for a flight cannot be planned around driving time alone.

Car rental at Dubrovnik Airport

A car collected in Dubrovnik requires written permission from the rental company to enter Montenegro and confirmation of suitable insurance. If you want to return it at TIV, also request confirmation of an international drop-off. Crossing the border and returning a car in another country are separate rental conditions and may have separate charges.

Taxi transport from the airport

A DBV-Herceg Novi transfer with TTM costs 100 € per vehicle, including luggage and a meeting in arrivals. Around 45 minutes refers to the drive, while waiting at the border can lengthen the journey. Give your exact destination in Herceg Novi when booking. Confirm the fare and time separately for a return transfer to DBV.

P10 costs 13 € per day in the first period and 8 € in the second. The rate depends on the day you leave. The DBV parking layout and rates page helps you choose a parking lot at this terminal.

06

Podgorica Airport

Around an hour and 50 minutes by direct road transfer, or by bus via Podgorica.

Podgorica is a domestic alternative for Herceg Novi when a flight to TGD suits you better. The onward land journey is considerably longer than from Tivat, and the bus route requires a change at the town bus station in Podgorica. The direct drive and the two bus legs are separated here, with their actual costs and return connections.

From the TGD terminal to Herceg Novi

The direct drive from Podgorica Airport to Herceg Novi takes around an hour and 50 minutes. The route may follow the bay coast through Kotor and Risan or use the ferry, depending on the chosen road. The bus connection first runs to Podgorica Main Bus Station, so its total duration is not the same as this road estimate.

Car rental at Podgorica Airport

A car collected at TGD connects the longer journey to Herceg Novi with later trips around Montenegro. If you fly home from TIV, request a booking with drop-off at that airport. Collection in Podgorica and return in Tivat should be confirmed in the same offer, including any extra charge, to avoid driving back solely to return the vehicle.

Taxi transport from the airport

A direct TGD-Herceg Novi drive with Zeta Taxi costs 140 € per vehicle. You can arrange pickup on +382 67 995 757. The fare applies to this service and direction. When booking, give your flight number and the exact address in Herceg Novi or the place on the riviera you are continuing to.

Bus via Podgorica

A ticket from TGD to Podgorica Main Bus Station costs 3-5 € per passenger. You can buy it on the bus or through BusTicket4.me. The bus leaves from outside the terminal, and the drive to the town station takes around 15 minutes. The second leg toward Herceg Novi starts there.

Bus station outside the TGD terminal

For the second leg, buy a Podgorica-Herceg Novi ticket costing 10-14 € per passenger each way. The Podgorica-Herceg Novi departures timetable includes journeys of around two hours and 39 minutes, with other services taking longer. This is the intercity leg alone, excluding the trip from TGD and waiting at the station. The two bus tickets together cost 13-19 €. For the reverse direction, open Herceg Novi-Podgorica, then Podgorica-Podgorica Airport.

Parking at Podgorica Airport

Parking at TGD costs 3 € per started hour or 10 € a day. A lost ticket costs 30 €. The daily rate is for leaving the car at this terminal, not for parking during your stay in Herceg Novi.
