How to arrange seven days from Ulcinj
The first two days use short local drives, the next three form the coastal and mountain middle of the plan, and the final two require early departures. Every day follows the same logic with a start at the Ulcinj lodging, named stops in order, and a return to the same parking lot at the base.
What each day covers
- Day 1 Ulcinj Old Town, Valdanos, and return to Ulcinj
- Day 2 Long Beach, the Bojana River, Ada Bojana, and return to Ulcinj
- Day 3 Petrovac, Sveti Stefan, Budva, and return to Ulcinj
- Day 4 Kotor, Perast, Our Lady of the Rocks, and return to Ulcinj
- Day 5 Cetinje, Lovcen, Njegusi, and return to Ulcinj
- Day 6 Ostrog, Biogradsko Lake, and return to Ulcinj
- Day 7 Black Lake, the Durmitor Ring, and return to Ulcinj
All seven days in order
Open the day you are planning and follow its stops in the listed order. Driving times remain visible so you can separate hours on the road from time spent at each destination.
Day 1Ulcinj Old Town and Valdanos BayThe first day begins at your Ulcinj lodging and stays within town and the western shore. Walk through Old Town, drive through the olive grove to Valdanos Bay, and finish at the same base.A local day with short drives | Overnight at the same lodging in Ulcinj
Leave your Ulcinj lodging for Small Beach and park in the public lot below the Old Town walls. The Lower Gate is a short waterfront walk away, so the car remains in one place throughout the historic-center visit.
Enter through the Lower Gate and climb to Slave Square, once a central space inside the fortified town. Visit the museum complex and its archaeological collection, then continue to Balsic Tower and the terrace overlooking Small Beach.
Follow the stone lanes from Balsic Tower to the Upper Gate, then descend along the other side of the walls. The loop reveals how the citadel connects with the former harbor and returns to the same parking lot without repeating streets.
Allow about 15 minutes to drive from Old Town to Valdanos. Continue through the old olive grove, walk along the stone shore, and reserve time for a swim or quiet break before returning to the car by the same access road.
Drive directly from Valdanos to the same Ulcinj lodging. The early finish leaves time for an evening walk through the Pine Forest or along the shore, with the car already parked at the base.
Day 2Long Beach and Ada BojanaDay two follows the sandy shoreline from the Ulcinj lodging toward the Bojana River. The order runs from Long Beach through Donji Stoj to Ada Bojana and ends back at the same base.A full day on the southern shore | Overnight at the same lodging in Ulcinj
Leave the lodging toward Port Milena and continue to a chosen Long Beach entrance in Donji Stoj. Park at that entrance and use one section of the beach as the morning base rather than moving the car between neighboring beach areas.
Long Beach stretches from Port Milena toward the Bojana delta with fine sand and a broad shallow shoreline. Walk one section, leave time for swimming and lunch, then return to the same car for the drive toward the river.
Continue from Donji Stoj toward the Bojana bridge and park at a restaurant or lodging with guest spaces. A riverbank walk shows the wooden houses on stilts, small docks, and a way of life that differs from the open shore of Long Beach.
Cross the bridge to the Ada Bojana entrance and walk onto the wide sandy beach between the sea and river channels. Give most of the afternoon to swimming, a long beach walk, or watching water sports, then return to the same parking area.
Drive directly through Donji Stoj to the same Ulcinj lodging. The day ends without another town stop, and the vehicle remains at the base until the following morning.
Day 3Petrovac, Sveti Stefan, and BudvaDay three begins with an early departure from Ulcinj and follows the coast through Petrovac, Sveti Stefan, and Budva. The sequence reserves the largest block for Budva Old Town and finishes back at the Ulcinj lodging.A full coastal driving day | Overnight at the same lodging in Ulcinj
Leave the Ulcinj lodging toward Bar and continue along the coast to Petrovac. Use a public parking lot above the promenade, which lets you reach the water on foot without driving through the narrow waterfront streets.
Walk the promenade to small Kastio Fortress at the western edge of the bay, then return beside the town beach. The fortress terrace looks toward the islands of Katic and Sveta Nedjelja, and the loop ends at the same parking lot before the drive to Sveti Stefan.
Allow about 20 minutes to drive from Petrovac to the viewpoint above Sveti Stefan. Stay long enough to see the island, its causeway, and the beaches on both sides, then continue to Budva without taking the car down into the settlement.
On arrival in Budva, leave the car in the large public lot beside the Old Town area and continue on foot. One parking location serves the walls, marina, and Slovenska shoreline, so the car can remain there until departure.
Enter through the land gate, follow the compact lanes and squares, and visit the area around Saint John and Holy Trinity churches. Finish at the Citadel and southern walls, then exit toward the marina and walk the waterfront back to the parking lot for a complete town circuit.
Follow the coast back through Petrovac and Bar to the same Ulcinj lodging. The day ends at the established base, leaving the next morning free for a rested departure toward the Bay of Kotor.
Day 4Kotor, Perast, and Our Lady of the RocksDay four is dedicated to Kotor and Perast with no extra sightseeing stops on the way from Ulcinj. The long drive leads to full visits in both towns and a return to the same Ulcinj base.A long day in the Bay of Kotor | Overnight at the same lodging in Ulcinj
Start early from the Ulcinj lodging and drive through Bar and Budva to Kotor. Leave the car at Benovo, where a short walk beside the Skurda River reaches the North Gate and keeps the entire historic center within walking distance.
Enter at the North Gate beside Saint Mary of the River and continue to Saint Luke and Saint Nicholas churches. Cross Arms Square, walk to Saint Tryphon Cathedral, and return through the craft lanes to cover the principal squares in a clear loop.
Return to Benovo and follow the waterfront road to the public parking area at the entrance to Perast. The car stays outside the narrow center while the promenade, Saint Nicholas bell tower, and boat docks remain an easy walk.
Walk past the waterfront palaces and Saint Nicholas Church, then take a boat from the dock to Our Lady of the Rocks. Visit the church and museum collection on the island, and after returning leave time to walk to the western end of Perast.
Drive directly from Perast toward Ulcinj with one planned break for the driver. Park at the same Ulcinj lodging on arrival, which closes the Bay of Kotor day at the established base.
Leave the car at the lodging and spend the evening within walking distance in Ulcinj. This quiet ending separates the long bay trip from the next day in Cetinje and Lovcen.
Day 5Cetinje, Lovcen, and NjegusiDay five starts in Ulcinj, continues to the historic center of Cetinje, the Njegos Mausoleum, and Njegusi, and returns to the same lodging. Cetinje receives a full visit, while Lovcen and Njegusi form one connected mountain section.A full historic and mountain loop | Overnight at the same lodging in Ulcinj
Drive from the Ulcinj lodging to Cetinje and use a public parking lot near Court Square. The King Nikola Museum, Billiard Palace, Cetinje Monastery, and the main pedestrian street are all linked by a short walking route from here.
Begin at the King Nikola Museum, then cross to the Billiard Palace and the Relief Map of Montenegro. Finish at Cetinje Monastery and walk along Njegoseva Street back to the car before starting the climb into Lovcen National Park.
Climb from Cetinje through Lovcen National Park to the parking area below Jezerski Vrh. The final approach continues on foot through a tunnel and up 461 steps, so this part of the day needs a steady pace and enough time.
Inside the mausoleum, see the sculpture of Petar II Petrovic Njegos and continue to the circular viewpoint beyond the chapel. The panorama spans the Lovcen massif and much of Montenegro, and the visit ends by descending the same staircase to the car.
Descend from Jezerski Vrh to the center of Njegusi village. Walk around the Njegos birth house area and allow time for smoked ham, cheese, or a simple meal before returning toward Cetinje.
Drive back through Cetinje and continue directly to Ulcinj. Park again at the same lodging, completing the mountain loop at the only base used during the seven days.
Day 6Ostrog Monastery and Biogradska GoraDay six joins two distant destinations and starts early at the Ulcinj lodging. Ostrog receives an unhurried morning visit, Biogradsko Lake gets the afternoon, and the route closes at the same base.A very long day with about eight hours of driving | Overnight at the same lodging in Ulcinj
Leave the Ulcinj lodging early, travel through Podgorica, and park first at Lower Ostrog Monastery. After that visit, take the same car up the approach to the parking area below Upper Ostrog and complete the final section on foot.
Visit Holy Trinity Church at the Lower Monastery, then continue to the Upper Monastery built into the cliff. Walk through its two cave churches and the terrace above the Bjelopavlici Plain before returning to the same car.
Continue from Ostrog through Podgorica and Kolasin to the entrance of Biogradska Gora National Park. The drive has no additional sightseeing stops, preserving the afternoon block for the forest and lake.
Start from the parking lot and follow the marked path all the way around Biogradsko Lake through the old-growth forest. The trail returns to the same point, giving immediate access to the car for the drive back to Ulcinj.
Drive back through Kolasin and Podgorica to the same Ulcinj lodging. This is the final and longest leg of the day, so set one driver break in advance and end the plan after parking at the base.
Day 7Black Lake and the Durmitor RingThe final day runs from Ulcinj to Zabljak, Black Lake, and the complete Durmitor Ring. It is the longest plan of the week, with a small number of purposeful stops and a final return to the same Ulcinj lodging.A very long day with an early start | Overnight at the same lodging in Ulcinj
Leave the Ulcinj lodging very early and drive through Podgorica, Niksic, and Savnik to Zabljak. Refuel on arrival and park near the Black Lake entrance because the later route follows the 76-kilometer Durmitor Ring.
Walk from the entrance to the Black Lake shore and continue through the forest to a point that shows both lake basins and Mount Medjed. Return along the same path to preserve the larger time block for the mountain circuit.
Begin the Durmitor Ring toward Sedlo Pass and use the marked pullout at the pass. The view opens toward Sedlena Greda and the Dobri Do valley, making this the first defined panorama stop on the loop.
Descend from Sedlo through Dobri Do and continue to Trsa village. Take the main meal and driver break in Trsa, then continue toward Susica Canyon without retracing the same mountain section.
Follow the ring from Trsa toward Susica Canyon, then return to the Zabljak side of the massif through Mala Crna Gora. This segment completes the panoramic circuit and reaches Zabljak without a second crossing of Sedlo Pass.
Drive back through Savnik, Niksic, and Podgorica to the same Ulcinj lodging. The seven-day plan ends exactly where it began, with every overnight stay in one base and no luggage transfers between towns.
Before booking, compare the rental price, deposit rules, luggage space, and exact pickup location.
Four decisions that keep the seven days coherent
The plan gains its value from one base and an exact stop sequence. These four checks give each day a useful beginning and finish.
Confirm parking at the lodging for all seven nights because every daily circuit ends at that exact place.
The bay, Ostrog, Biogradska Gora, and Durmitor require several hours on the road, so their first legs begin early in Ulcinj.
On the Durmitor Ring follow the full loop from Zabljak through Sedlo and Trsa to Mala Crna Gora and back to Zabljak.
The last stop is the direct drive to the same Ulcinj lodging and parking place, not another attraction.
Practical decisions before departure
- Reserve the same Ulcinj lodging with confirmed parking for all seven nights.
- Begin the Bay of Kotor, Ostrog, Biogradska Gora, and Durmitor days with a full tank and one planned driver break.
- Bring footwear and clothing suited to the Njegos Mausoleum stairs and the religious space at Ostrog.
- Follow the Durmitor Ring in the order Zabljak, Sedlo, Dobri Do, Trsa, Susica, Mala Crna Gora, and Zabljak.
- Return the car to the same parking place at the Ulcinj lodging after every day.
Who this plan suits
This plan suits travelers who want one seaside base and accept two long driving days toward northern Montenegro. In return, it provides seven genuinely different days, exact stopping points, and the same familiar lodging every evening.
