A ten-day itinerary from Petrovac
Set out from your Petrovac accommodation each morning and come back to it at night. The journey estimates exclude time spent eating, walking and visiting sights.
Day 1Petrovac, Lučice and BuljaricaBegin with Petrovac and the small area immediately to its south. Explore the harbour and Kastio on foot from your accommodation, then use the car for Lučice, Gradište Monastery and Buljarica.Full day | Night in Petrovac
Keep the car at your accommodation and take the promenade towards Petrovac harbour. Climb to the terrace beside Kastio for views of Katič and Sveta Nedelja, then carry on to the Roman mosaic remains at Mirište. Follow the edge of the town beach on the way back and finish the circuit where you began.
Lučice lies about five minutes by car from the centre of Petrovac. Use the marked parking area on the approach and divide the stop between the beach and the short rise along the side of the cove. When the visit is over, continue south on the same road for Buljarica.
Drive for roughly ten minutes from Lučice to Gradište Monastery and explore the churches within the stone enclosure above Buljarica. Afterwards, descend to a signposted beach access and use the parking provided for that part of the shore. Petrovac is about ten minutes away when you are ready to finish the day.
Day 2Virpazar and Rijeka CrnojevićaVirpazar is normally 35–45 minutes from Petrovac. Combine its lake jetty and Besac Fortress with Rijeka Crnojevića, then allow between one hour and one hour fifteen minutes to reach your accommodation again.Full day | Night in Petrovac
Park near Virpazar railway station or in the signed area before the village centre and walk to the boats. Choose a licensed operator and settle the route, length and finishing point before departure. Two hours gives scope for the reed-lined channels, some open water and an unhurried arrival back in Virpazar.
Reach Besac on foot from the centre of Virpazar. Its elevated walls look across the settlement, the entrance to Lake Skadar and the vineyards stretching into Crmnica. The view also puts the morning's cruise into context. Walk back to your original parking place before setting off for Rijeka Crnojevića.
The road from Virpazar to Pavlova Strana takes approximately 50–60 minutes. Pause for the broad view of the river bend, then descend into Rijeka Crnojevića and use the public parking before the stone bridge. See Danilo's Bridge and stroll beside the river before the drive home to Petrovac.
Day 3Cetinje, Lovćen and NjegušiCetinje is around 50–60 minutes from Petrovac. From there, travel to Jezerski Vrh and Njeguši before heading back through Cetinje and Budva, a final leg that takes close to an hour and a half.Full day | Night in Petrovac
Use the public parking beside Vladin Dom and visit King Nikola's Palace, Biljarda and Cetinje Monastery on foot. The palace collection documents Montenegro's royal household, whilst Biljarda introduces the life and writing of Petar II Petrović Njegoš. The monastery completes a compact walk through Cetinje's historic core.
Allow 35–45 minutes for the road from Cetinje to the parking below the mausoleum. A long staircase and rock passage lead to the granite caryatids, the mausoleum interior and the panorama from Jezerski Vrh. Two hours covers the ascent, time at the summit and the descent to the vehicle.
The journey down from Jezerski Vrh to Njeguši takes about thirty minutes. In Erakovići, visit the house where Njegoš was born, then call at a family producer for local prosciutto and cheese. Park at the producer's property and travel back to Petrovac by way of Cetinje and Budva after eating.
Day 4Kotor and PerastThe morning journey to Kotor lasts about 60–75 minutes. Perast sits another 20–25 minutes along the bay, and returning from there to Petrovac generally requires 75–90 minutes.Full day | Night in Petrovac
Park at Benovo and enter the walled town through the North Gate. Cross Arms Square and visit St Tryphon's Cathedral and the Maritime Museum, using the smaller squares and lanes to reach the Sea Gate. Walk back across the Old Town to the North Gate for the next part of the visit.
From the north side of the Old Town, follow the steps towards the Church of Our Lady of Remedy. The ascent reveals the tiled roofs, harbour and enclosed shape of the bay, and the church terrace is a natural place to rest. Descend by the same route, collect the car at Benovo and continue to Perast.
Leave the vehicle in the entrance car park at the Kotor end of Perast and walk along the waterfront. Pass St Nicholas Square and the stone palaces, then arrange a boat that brings you back after visiting Our Lady of the Rocks. Once ashore again, walk to the car and begin the journey to Petrovac.
Day 5Budva, Miločer and Sveti StefanBudva lies 30–40 minutes north of Petrovac. Work back down the coast through Pržno, Miločer and Sveti Stefan, leaving a final twenty-minute journey from Sveti Stefan to the same accommodation.Full day | Night in Petrovac
Leave the car in the parking area beside the walls and enter near the marina. Explore the Citadel, St John's Church, Holy Trinity Church and Santa Maria in Punta before passing out through Pizana Gate. Have lunch nearby, then collect the vehicle from the same place and travel towards Pržno.
Park at the entrance to Pržno and descend to its little waterfront. The coastal footpath continues through Miločer Park, beside Queen's Beach and the former royal residence, until the view opens towards Sveti Stefan. Retrace the path to Pržno, then make the short drive to Sveti Stefan village.
Use the public parking above Sveti Stefan and walk down towards the island causeway. From the shore, the beaches on either side frame the stone link and the closely packed buildings beyond it. Climb back to the car afterwards and reach Petrovac in about twenty minutes.
Day 6Stari Bar, Ulcinj and Velika PlažaExpect 40–50 minutes on the road between Petrovac and Stari Bar, followed by another 35–45 minutes to Ulcinj. From the beach area at Donji Štoj, the evening journey to Petrovac is usually 75–90 minutes.Full day | Night in Petrovac
Use the public car park beneath the old bazaar and climb its main stone street to the fortified town. Within the ruins, look for the Clock Tower, churches, aqueduct and viewpoints facing Mount Rumija. After returning through the gate, have lunch in the bazaar and then continue from the same parking place towards Ulcinj.
Park above Small Beach and walk along the waterfront to Ulcinj Old Town. The route through the fortified quarter reaches Ulcinj Museum, Balšić Tower and terraces above Pristan. Follow the shore back to the vehicle after exploring and continue south to Donji Štoj.
Select an organised beach entrance at Donji Štoj and use the parking provided for that section of Velika Plaža. Spend two hours walking the wide sand, swimming and resting before the long evening journey. Travel straight back to Petrovac and finish at your usual accommodation.
Day 7Ostrog, Nikšić and Krupac LakeReaching Ostrog from Petrovac takes about two hours fifteen minutes. Nikšić is approximately 45 minutes beyond the monastery, and the evening journey from Krupac to Petrovac lasts roughly two hours.Full day | Night in Petrovac
Depart early and use the designated parking beneath Upper Ostrog. Steps lead to the cliffside monastery, where the Church of the Presentation and the Church of the Holy Cross occupy the upper complex. On the descent, visit Lower Ostrog and Holy Trinity Church before taking the road to Nikšić.
Park beside Freedom Square and look at the planned streets extending from the broad central space. Continue on foot to King Nikola's Palace and the Cathedral Church of St Basil of Ostrog, then end the town walk at Bedem Fortress. Collect the car from the square before heading to Krupac.
The developed shore of Krupac Lake is about ten minutes from central Nikšić. Leave the vehicle nearby and take a late lunch, waterside walk or swim before the final drive. From Krupac, go directly to Petrovac and budget roughly two hours for the journey.
Day 8Durmitor and Đurđevića Tara BridgeThis is the schedule's longest excursion. Black Lake is about three and a half hours from Petrovac, the bridge lies thirty minutes beyond Žabljak, and the evening drive home can take between three and a half and four hours.Long day trip | Night in Petrovac
Set off before six and use the parking beside the Black Lake entrance. A forest path reaches Big Lake and continues along the shore to the point where Big and Small Lake become distinct at lower water levels. Complete the circuit for views of Međed and Durmitor's wooded slopes, finishing beside the lake where the walk began.
It takes about ten minutes to reach Žabljak from Black Lake. Park in the centre, have lunch and walk along the main street as far as Trg Durmitorskih Ratnika. After this short town visit, pick up the car from the same area and continue towards the Tara bridge.
The bridge is approximately thirty minutes from Žabljak. Marked parking is available near both approaches, allowing you to cross part of the span on foot and look into the Tara Canyon. Once back at the vehicle, begin the three-and-a-half to four-hour trip to Petrovac.
Day 9Morača Monastery, Biogradska Gora and KolašinMorača Monastery is about two hours fifteen minutes from Petrovac. Continue for roughly one hour fifteen minutes to Biogradsko Lake, then allow around two and a half hours for the journey from Kolašin to Petrovac.Long day trip | Night in Petrovac
Park directly beside the Morača Monastery complex. Visit the Church of the Dormition, the smaller Church of St Nicholas and the courtyard overlooking the canyon. As the monastery stands on the way to Kolašin, carry on in the same direction for Biogradska Gora when the visit is complete.
Beyond the national park gate, take the access road to the parking beside Biogradsko Lake. Its educational circuit is 3.3 kilometres long and normally takes between an hour and ninety minutes. The path stays close to the water beneath old forest, leaving time for the visitor centre and a pause on the shore.
Kolašin is about 25–30 minutes from Biogradsko Lake. Leave the car near Trg Boraca and explore the small central area before a late lunch or early supper. Begin the direct journey to Petrovac afterwards and reserve approximately two and a half hours for it.
Day 10Podgorica followed by PetrovacPodgorica lies 60–75 minutes from Petrovac. Spend the final sightseeing day between Stara Varoš, the Ribnica confluence and the modern centre, then end the itinerary with an evening beside the sea in Petrovac.Full day | Night in Petrovac
Use the public parking by Bećir-beg Osmanagić Square and begin beneath the Clock Tower. Walk through Stara Varoš past Skender Čauš Mosque, then descend to Sastavci and the old bridge where the Ribnica meets the Morača. Kralja Nikole Street leads back towards the same parking area.
Park in the G1 public garage on Novaka Miloševa Street and walk to Independence Square. Continue by way of Njegoševa Street to Millennium Bridge and the Morača embankment, then head towards Gorica Park and St George's Church. Walk back to the same garage afterwards and set off for Petrovac.
The journey from Podgorica takes approximately 60–75 minutes. Leave the vehicle at your accommodation, walk to the harbour and Kastio, and choose a restaurant beside the promenade for dinner. This brings the ten-day itinerary to a close at the Petrovac address used throughout the holiday.
Before booking, compare the hire price, deposit terms, luggage space and exact collection location.
