A week based in Ulcinj

Ulcinj in 7 Days

Keep the same Ulcinj accommodation throughout this seven-day plan. Each outing has a defined sequence, starts at that base and brings you back to its car park in the evening.

Ulcinj in 7 Days
Length7 daysA complete return journey each dayAccommodationUlcinj onlyOne room and one car park for the entire weekLongest outingDurmitorA very early start with an evening returnRangeCoast, bay, peaks and monasterySeven days with seven different purposes

Two local days establish the town and its southern beaches before five longer journeys introduce coastal heritage, a monastery and the mountains. The northern outings deliberately contain fewer visits because the destination itself deserves the available time.

How the seven days fit together

Local outings occupy the opening two days, three coast-and-mountain circuits shape the middle of the week and two early departures reach the north. The fixed Ulcinj accommodation remains the starting address and finishing car park throughout.

The destination for each day

  • Day 1 Ulcinj Old Town, Valdanos and the Ulcinj return
  • Day 2 Long Beach, the Bojana, Ada Bojana and the Ulcinj return
  • Day 3 Petrovac, Sveti Stefan, Budva and the Ulcinj return
  • Day 4 Kotor, Perast, Our Lady of the Rocks and the Ulcinj return
  • Day 5 Cetinje, Lovcen, Njegusi and the Ulcinj return
  • Day 6 Ostrog, Biogradsko Lake and the Ulcinj return
  • Day 7 Black Lake, the Durmitor Ring and the Ulcinj return

The week in exact order

Choose a day and open its complete sequence before setting off. The listed journey times make the amount of driving clear and keep it separate from the time reserved for each visit.

Day 1Ulcinj Old Town and Valdanos BayBegin at the Ulcinj accommodation and devote the morning to the walled town. The afternoon drive crosses the old olive grove to Valdanos before returning to the same base.A nearby circuit with little driving | Night at the same accommodation in Ulcinj
10 to 20 min by carThe car park beneath Old Town

Set off from the accommodation towards Small Beach and use the public car park below the historic walls. Walk beside the water to the Lower Gate and leave the vehicle here until the Old Town circuit is complete.

1 hr 30 min to 2 hrLower Gate, Slave Square and Ulcinj Museum

Climb through the Lower Gate to Slave Square in the oldest part of the fortified settlement. Explore the archaeological displays in the museum complex, then continue to Balsic Tower and the terrace above Small Beach.

1 to 1 hr 30 minUpper Gate and the descent to Small Beach

Thread through the stone lanes from Balsic Tower to the Upper Gate and descend by a different side of the walls. The route explains the link between the citadel and former harbour before finishing beside the original car park.

2 to 2 hr 30 minValdanos olive grove and bay

The drive from Old Town to Valdanos takes roughly 15 minutes. Pass through the mature olive grove, walk along the rocky bay and allow time beside the water before retracing the short access road to the car.

15 to 25 min by carBack to the Ulcinj base

Return straight from Valdanos to the same accommodation in Ulcinj. With the vehicle parked for the night, Borova Suma and the waterfront remain available for an easy evening on foot.

Day 2Long Beach and Ada BojanaTravel from the Ulcinj base towards Port Milena and follow the sandy coastline to the Bojana. Long Beach, the riverbank and Ada Bojana form one continuous outing that ends back in Ulcinj.A whole day along the southern beaches | Night at the same accommodation in Ulcinj
15 to 25 min by carUlcinj to a Long Beach entrance

Drive past Port Milena to one selected beach entrance in Donji Stoj and use its car park for the morning. Staying within that section gives you more time on the sand than moving the vehicle between adjacent beach facilities.

2 to 3 hrLong Beach at Donji Stoj

Fine sand and shallow water run from the Port Milena side towards the Bojana delta. Walk a manageable stretch, swim and have lunch before returning to the same car for the journey farther south.

1 to 1 hr 30 minFishing houses beside the Bojana

Continue to the Bojana bridge and arrange parking with the riverside restaurant or accommodation you are using. A walk along the bank reveals timber houses on stilts, moorings and the sheltered river landscape beyond the open beach.

2 to 3 hrAda Bojana beach

Cross onto Ada Bojana and follow the pedestrian approach to the broad beach between sea and river channels. Use the afternoon for swimming, a long shoreline walk or watching water sports, then return to the vehicle at the same entrance.

30 to 45 min by carAda Bojana to the Ulcinj accommodation

Head through Donji Stoj directly to your established base in Ulcinj. Once the car is back in its usual space, the second day is complete without another town stop.

Day 3Petrovac, Sveti Stefan and BudvaAn early start from Ulcinj brings the route to Petrovac first, followed by the Sveti Stefan panorama and Budva. Budva receives the longest visit before the coastal return to the same accommodation.A full outing along the coast | Night at the same accommodation in Ulcinj
1 hr 15 min to 1 hr 40 minThe drive from Ulcinj to Petrovac

Leave the base towards Bar and continue beside the coast to Petrovac. Park above the promenade in a public car park so the waterfront can be explored on foot without entering its narrow streets.

1 hr 30 min to 2 hrPetrovac promenade and Kastio Fortress

Walk west along the bay to compact Kastio Fortress and its terrace facing Katic and Sveta Nedjelja islands. Return beside the town beach to the same car park, completing a neat loop before the next drive.

35 to 50 minThe public panorama above Sveti Stefan

The journey from Petrovac to the panorama point takes about 20 minutes. View the island settlement, narrow causeway and two beaches from above, then continue north without taking the car into the lanes below.

20 to 30 min by carA single car park for Budva Old Town

Choose the large public car park serving the Old Town area and leave the vehicle there for the whole Budva visit. The walls, marina and Slovenska waterfront are connected by a straightforward pedestrian circuit from this point.

2 hr 30 min to 3 hrBudva Old Town, Citadel and marina

Enter by the land gate and cross the small squares around Saint John and Holy Trinity churches. Reach the Citadel and southern wall, then leave towards the marina and follow the harbour edge back to the car park.

1 hr 30 min to 2 hr by carBudva to the original Ulcinj base

Return through Petrovac and Bar to the same accommodation in Ulcinj. Ending at the familiar base keeps the luggage in place and leaves a clean start for the Bay of Kotor on the following morning.

Day 4Kotor, Perast and Our Lady of the RocksThis day gives the available time to Kotor and Perast rather than adding coastal visits on the approach. Both historic centres receive a proper walk before the direct journey back to Ulcinj.A long Bay of Kotor day | Night at the same accommodation in Ulcinj
2 hr 15 min to 2 hr 45 minUlcinj to Benovo car park in Kotor

Depart early and travel through Bar and Budva to Kotor from the Ulcinj accommodation. Benovo car park places you beside the Skurda River, a short walk from the North Gate and the pedestrian centre.

2 to 2 hr 30 minNorth Gate, Saint Luke and Saint Tryphon

Enter beside Saint Mary of the River and continue to the churches of Saint Luke and Saint Nicholas. Cross Arms Square, reach Saint Tryphon Cathedral and return through the craft lanes to form a coherent circuit through the main squares.

20 to 30 min by carKotor to the entrance of Perast

Collect the vehicle at Benovo and follow the bay shore to the public car park outside Perast. From there the waterfront palaces, Saint Nicholas bell tower and small harbour can all be reached on foot.

2 to 2 hr 30 minPerast and Our Lady of the Rocks

Follow the promenade past the stone palaces and Saint Nicholas Church, then board a boat to Our Lady of the Rocks. See the church and museum collection before returning to Perast for a final walk along the western waterfront.

2 hr 30 min to 3 hrThe return journey from Perast to Ulcinj

Travel directly towards Ulcinj with one planned rest for the driver. The Bay of Kotor day ends when the car is back at the same accommodation and parking space.

On foot from the baseAn evening without another drive

Leave the vehicle at the Ulcinj accommodation and use only the nearby pedestrian area for the evening. This settled finish separates a demanding bay outing from the next mountain day.

Day 5Cetinje, Lovcen and NjegusiStart at the Ulcinj base and give Cetinje a complete historic walk before climbing to the Njegos Mausoleum. Njegusi provides the final visit, followed by the drive back to the same accommodation.A full heritage and mountain circuit | Night at the same accommodation in Ulcinj
1 hr 45 min to 2 hr 15 minUlcinj to Court Square in Cetinje

Drive from the accommodation to Cetinje and select a public car park close to Court Square. The King Nikola Museum, Billiard Palace, Cetinje Monastery and main pedestrian street then form one compact walking area.

2 hr 30 min to 3 hrCourt Square, Billiard Palace and Cetinje Monastery

Begin inside the King Nikola Museum, cross to the Billiard Palace and see the Relief Map of Montenegro. Continue to Cetinje Monastery and return along Njegoseva Street to the car before entering the national park.

35 to 50 min by carCetinje to the Njegos Mausoleum

Climb through Lovcen National Park to the car park beneath Jezerski Vrh. A tunnel and 461 steps complete the approach on foot, so this ascent needs an unhurried time block.

1 hr 30 min to 2 hrNjegos Mausoleum on Jezerski Vrh

See the sculpture of Petar II Petrovic Njegos inside the mausoleum and continue behind the chapel to the circular viewpoint. After the wide view across the Lovcen massif, descend the same staircase to the parked car.

1 to 1 hr 30 minNjegusi and the Njegos birth house

Descend into Njegusi and stop near the centre of the village. Walk around the Njegos birth-house area and make this the meal stop for smoked ham, cheese or another simple local plate.

2 hr 15 min to 2 hr 45 minNjegusi back to Ulcinj

Return through Cetinje and continue to the accommodation in Ulcinj. Parking in the usual space completes the entire Lovcen circuit at the week’s only base.

Day 6Ostrog Monastery and Biogradska GoraTwo distant destinations make this an early-departure day from Ulcinj. The morning belongs to Ostrog, the afternoon to Biogradsko Lake and the evening to the direct return journey.A very long day with roughly eight hours in the car | Night at the same accommodation in Ulcinj
2 hr 30 min to 3 hrUlcinj to Lower Ostrog Monastery

Set off early from the Ulcinj accommodation and park first at Lower Ostrog Monastery after travelling through Podgorica. Once that visit is complete, drive up the approach to the parking area beneath Upper Ostrog and walk the final section.

2 to 2 hr 30 minLower and Upper Ostrog Monasteries

See Holy Trinity Church in the lower complex before continuing to the monastery embedded high in the cliff. Walk through the two cave churches and the terrace above the Bjelopavlici Plain, then return to the same vehicle.

2 to 2 hr 30 min by carOstrog to Biogradsko Lake

Travel through Podgorica and Kolasin to the Biogradska Gora entrance. Keeping this as one uninterrupted transfer protects a worthwhile afternoon period in the forest.

1 hr 30 min to 2 hrA complete walk around Biogradsko Lake

Take the established path from the car park around the entire lake through the old-growth woodland. The circuit closes at its starting point, allowing a direct departure as soon as the walk is finished.

3 to 3 hr 30 min by carBiogradska Gora back to Ulcinj

Return through Kolasin and Podgorica to the same Ulcinj accommodation. Plan one driver rest on this final leg, then end the day as soon as the vehicle is back in its normal space.

Day 7Black Lake and the Durmitor RingThe last outing reaches Zabljak, Black Lake and the full mountain circuit before returning to Ulcinj. Its limited number of stops gives the 76-kilometre Durmitor Ring the centre of the day.The longest day with a very early departure | Night at the same accommodation in Ulcinj
3 hr 45 min to 4 hr 30 minUlcinj to Zabljak

Leave the accommodation very early and travel through Podgorica, Niksic and Savnik to Zabljak. Fill with petrol on arrival and park near the Black Lake entrance before beginning the 76-kilometre mountain circuit.

1 hr 15 min to 1 hr 45 minBlack Lake

Walk through the forest to the lakeshore and continue far enough to see the two basins beneath Mount Medjed. Return along the same path to the vehicle, retaining the main block of the day for the ring road.

35 to 50 min by carZabljak to Sedlo Pass

Join the Durmitor Ring towards Sedlo and use the signed pull-in at the pass. Sedlena Greda and the Dobri Do valley fill the view, making this the first deliberate panorama stop.

1 hr 30 min to 2 hr with drivingDobri Do and Trsa

Descend from Sedlo through Dobri Do and continue to the village of Trsa. Use Trsa for the principal meal and driver rest, then carry on towards Susica Canyon.

2 to 2 hr 30 min with drivingSusica Canyon and Mala Crna Gora

Continue around the ring from Trsa to Susica Canyon and return to the Zabljak side through Mala Crna Gora. This completes the circular route and reaches the town without crossing Sedlo a second time.

3 hr 45 min to 4 hr 30 minZabljak to the Ulcinj accommodation

Travel back through Savnik, Niksic and Podgorica to the same base in Ulcinj. The week therefore ends at its starting address, with every overnight stay in one place and no luggage moved between towns.

Settle these points first

Four choices that hold the week together

A single base works only when departures, stop order and returns are explicit. These checks make the plan dependable from the first morning to the final night.

01One Ulcinj car park

Confirm the accommodation space for all seven nights because every route closes at that same address.

02Early starts for distance

The bay, Ostrog, Biogradska Gora and Durmitor involve long transfers, so their opening drives begin early.

03A continuous Durmitor circuit

Run from Zabljak through Sedlo and Trsa to Mala Crna Gora before returning to Zabljak on the other side of the ring.

04The base as the final stop

Every evening ends with the direct journey to the same Ulcinj accommodation rather than another sightseeing visit.

Decisions to settle before the week begins

  • Book one Ulcinj accommodation with confirmed parking for the whole week.
  • Begin the bay and northern outings with a full tank and a selected place for the driver to rest.
  • Take footwear and clothing appropriate for the 461 mausoleum steps and the religious complex at Ostrog.
  • Drive the Durmitor Ring in the order Zabljak, Sedlo, Dobri Do, Trsa, Susica, Mala Crna Gora and Zabljak.
  • Put the car back in the same accommodation space at the end of every outing.

The traveller this week is designed for

Choose this week when one seaside base matters more than short daily mileage and two demanding northern journeys are acceptable. It rewards that commitment with exact stops, seven different experiences and a familiar Ulcinj address every night.
