Hidden places in Petrovac and the surrounding area

In Petrovac, the streets begin climbing towards the hills just behind the waterfront. Small stone churches stand among them, and a landscaped viewpoint overlooks the whole bay. Beyond the town, some lesser-known stretches of coast can only be reached by boat, while a garden visit with hosts in a nearby village can be arranged in advance.

Locations

Hidden places in town and nearby

Zvezda and the two churches are in Petrovac. Wild Orange is in Buljarica, Pecin is beside Canj, and Maljevik is near Sutomore in the municipality of Bar. The pins mark the places themselves. The Pecin pin does not show where a boat departs, and the Zvezda pin does not mark a parking spot.

Short visits in town and separate trips beyond it

Three places are in Petrovac itself and three are outside the town. Both town churches can be seen from outside, and you can enter Saint Elijah’s when it is open. Trips beyond Petrovac involve different arrangements: Pecin requires a boat, Maljevik can be reached by land, and Wild Orange welcomes guests by prior agreement.

Zvezda viewpoint on Malo Brdo

View from Malo Brdo across Petrovac bay, houses and the surrounding slopes

From Malo Brdo, you can see Petrovac’s curved shoreline, houses rising up the slopes behind the beach and the islets off the bay. Zvezda viewpoint takes its name from a star that was restored when the site was landscaped.

A paved walking path of about 400 meters leads to the viewpoint. The approach includes an uphill stretch and steps, so it is a different walk from the level seafront promenade. The map marks the viewpoint itself. It does not identify a confirmed parking spot or the start of the path. Zvezda viewpoint on Google Maps.

Church of Saint Elijah

Stone facade, bell gable and cypresses at the Church of Saint Elijah in Petrovac

The Church of Saint Elijah has a small stone facade and an open bell gable, surrounded by tall cypresses. Steps lead up to the church from a paved area in front of it. The pale stone and tall trees are particularly striking from this lower space, before you climb to the door.

When the church is open, you can see its iconostasis, the screen of icons in front of the altar area. The icons are arranged in several rows around central doors, with a large cross above them. No regular tourist opening hours have been confirmed. Entry depends on the church being open and on religious services. Church of Saint Elijah on Google Maps.

Church of Saint Thomas in Petrovac

Stone facade and bells of the town’s Church of Saint Thomas behind its boundary wall

Petrovac’s Church of Saint Thomas stands in the streets near Mirista. Its stone facade rises behind a boundary wall, with a small rose-shaped opening and two bells. Pine trees and the wall partly hide the building, so the facade and bell gable are what you see most clearly from the street.

You can view the church from the public street during a short walk through this part of Petrovac. Tourist access to the grounds and interior has not been confirmed. Petrovac’s Church of Saint Thomas on Google Maps.

Wild Orange in Buljarica

Wild Orange in Buljarica

Table set in the garden of the Wild Orange family home in Buljarica

Wild Orange is a family home in Buljarica, with a stone house and a garden where Senka and Lazo welcome guests by arrangement. The table is set among plants and stone terraces. A visit takes place in their home, with a prepared meal and conversation with the hosts, giving it a different character from a meal at a beach restaurant.

They grow herbs and some of the vegetables they use in the garden, and buy other ingredients from local producers. A cooking class can also be included if you arrange it separately, allowing you to learn about the preparation as well as enjoy the meal.

Wild Orange is not a public garden that you can drop into without notice. Arrange a visit through the hosts’ contact page or booking page. The hosts will confirm an available time and what the visit includes. Wild Orange on Google Maps.

Pecin cove, Queen’s Beach near Canj

Pecin cove, Queen’s Beach near Canj

Pecin cove with a beach between rocky headlands near Canj

Pecin is a cove beside Canj, also known as Queen’s Beach. Rocky headlands and steep slopes enclose its narrow strip of beach. It is reached by sea, so a visit is a separate coastal boat trip rather than a continuation of walking or swimming in Petrovac itself.

Margo Boats advertises trips that stop at Queen’s Beach, with various departure points on the Bar coast. A tour that calls at Petrovac is not the same as a regular direct shuttle from Petrovac to Pecin. Before booking, clarify where it departs, how long it stays at the beach and how you return. 06
Maljevik Beach near Sutomore

Maljevik Beach near Sutomore

Maljevik shore with woodland and a rocky headland near Sutomore

Maljevik lies near Sutomore, in the municipality of Bar. It is a pebble beach about 330 meters long, beside a wooded, rocky stretch of coast. Headlands frame the view out to sea, away from Sutomore’s main beach and its row of places to eat and drink. From Petrovac, this is a separate swimming trip towards the Bar coast.

Unlike Pecin, Maljevik is reached by land along a local approach near Sutomore. The map marks the beach, not the center of the settlement. The beach is publicly accessible, but that does not confirm an available or free parking space beside the shore. Maljevik Beach on Google Maps.

Before setting outWhere to make arrangements in advance
Home visitBook a meal or a cooking class

When you arrange a visit to Wild Orange, specify whether you want a meal or a cooking class. If you want to help prepare the food, tell the hosts when you book.

BoatCheck whether the whole tour suits your plans

A trip that stops at Pecin may also cover other stretches of coast. If you want to spend the day just on that beach, arrange suitable transport and a return journey instead of treating every tour that names it as the same outing.

Exact location

Two names that can lead to the wrong place

Saint Thomas
The town church and Zukovica are separate visits

The town church is near Mirista. A different Church of Saint Thomas is in Zukovica, so check the location shown in search results. A photograph of the frescoes in Zukovica does not show the town church.

Queen’s Beach
For Pecin, look for Canj

The same name is used for beaches near Canj and in Milocer. When booking or navigating to Pecin, specify Canj so that you do not arrange a visit to a different cove.

Choosing a visit

Choose according to the approach and transport

In town
A town walk with or without a climb

The three town stops involve different amounts of walking. Reaching Zvezda means going uphill, and Saint Elijah also has steps. If stairs are a problem, you can still view the Church of Saint Thomas from the street without entering the grounds or the building.

Outside town
Return when you choose or at an agreed time

If you drive to Maljevik, you decide when to return. At Pecin, an agreed return boat determines when you leave the beach. Arrange your visit time with Wild Orange before setting out from Petrovac.

Questions about Petrovac’s hidden places

Which places can I visit without a rental car?

Zvezda, Saint Elijah and the town’s Saint Thomas are in Petrovac and can be visited on foot, with steps on the approaches to the viewpoint and Saint Elijah. Wild Orange is in Buljarica and requires a separate travel plan. Maljevik involves a trip towards Sutomore, while Pecin requires a boat. A car is therefore not necessary for every place on this list.

Can I walk to Queen’s Beach near Canj?

Pecin near Canj is reached by sea. Arrange a boat transfer or a tour that stops there. It is not a continuation of Petrovac’s coastal walk. The map pin marks the cove. Confirm the boat’s departure point with the operator.

Are these lesser-known beaches uncrowded?

Visitor numbers at Pecin change as excursion boats arrive. Maljevik is a public beach reached by land, so its position away from the main town beach does not guarantee fewer people either. If peace and quiet are essential to your choice of Pecin, ask the operator about its tour and beach stop before booking.
