Why this day is worth planning
The first day combines the town beach with a visit to the former royal residence beside the sea. The museum follows lunch and a rest, leaving the morning for the beach and the later afternoon for Bar's history and the palace's restored interior.

Zukotrlica: a morning on the town beach
Zukotrlica is the town beach in Susanj, about a kilometre long. Pines grow along the pebbly shore, with natural shade behind the bathing area.
Starting around 9:00, the estimate allows 25 minutes to walk from near the palace. Arriving around 9:25 leaves a full four hours for swimming and resting, until 13:25. Including the walk, this activity takes 4 hours and 25 minutes.
The waterfront promenade leads from the coastal centre towards Susanj and Zukotrlica.
Return to Topolica, lunch and a rest
By this estimate, the walk back from Zukotrlica to your accommodation in the coastal centre takes 25 minutes, with another 10 to change. Lunch would then be around 14:00.
The total of 3 hours and 5 minutes includes the return walk, changing, an hour for lunch and an hour and a half of rest. The walk to the palace follows that break.
King Nikola's Palace and the Local History Museum
King Nikola's Palace was built as a summer residence beside the sea, with a park, smaller palace buildings and guard towers. It now houses the Local History Museum, whose collections cover the archaeology, history and ethnology of the Bar area. The building is interesting in its own right: after restoration, the painted walls on the upper floors were presented to the public as part of the palace interior.
The walk from your accommodation in the coastal centre is estimated at 15 minutes, with an hour for the museum visit. Leaving around 16:30 would bring you to the museum around 16:45, with the visit lasting until around 17:45. The total is an hour and 15 minutes.
Kulturni centar Bar publishes opening hours of 8:00-20:00 for the Local History Museum and an adult admission price of 4 EUR.
Return to your accommodation in Topolica

Day 2: Swimming at Utjeha and returning to Bar
Why this day is worth planning
Utjeha offers a smaller cove and rocky shore towards Ulcinj, with an olive grove nearby. The second day allows four hours of swimming on this part of the riviera, followed by a return to Bar for lunch, with no further sightseeing after the beach.

The estimate allows 30 minutes for driving and another 5 each for parking and walking to the beach. Starting around 9:00 would bring you to the beach around 9:40. Traffic or a search for a parking space can extend the approach.
Four hours on Utjeha beach
Utjeha, also known as Val Maslina, has a short rocky shore facing southwest. Nearby is the olive grove for which the cove is known. The beach is about 200 metres long.
Four hours remain for swimming and resting, from 9:40 to 13:40. The drive is counted in the preceding activity, and lunch follows the return to Bar.
Return to Bar after the beach
From the beach, you walk back to the car and follow the same main road towards Topolica. The estimate allows 5 minutes each for walking and leaving the parking area, 30 minutes for driving and 10 for changing at your accommodation: 50 minutes in total.
Your return to the coastal centre is around 14:20, with lunch around 14:30 after changing.
Lunch and a free afternoon in Bar
The estimate allows an hour for lunch in Bar, followed by an hour and a half of rest at your accommodation.
Lunch and the break take 2 hours and 30 minutes in total. The rest of the afternoon is free after the break.
Day 3: Stari Bar, the bazaar and the Old Olive Tree at Mirovica
Why this day is worth planning
A separate day for Stari Bar leaves time to explore the former settlement through its streets and buildings. After sightseeing, lunch is in the streets below the walls, and a short visit to Mirovica connects the day with Bar's olive-growing heritage.
Day details
- Start
- Accommodation in Topolica, Bar
- Finish
- Bar, the same accommodation
| Part of the day | Activity | Total time |
|---|---|---|
| Morning | A morning among the remains of Stari Bar | 3 h 10 min |
| Midday | The bazaar below the town and lunch | 2 h 35 min |
| Afternoon | The Old Olive Tree at Mirovica | 1 h 5 min |
| End of the day | Return from Mirovica to Bar | 25 min |
A morning among the remains of Stari Bar
Stari Bar stands on a rocky outcrop beneath Rumija, about four kilometres from the sea. Parts of more than 250 buildings remain within the walls, including churches, palaces and olive mills. The walk also reaches the restored clock tower and the hammam, a former public bathhouse. Rumija's steep slopes rise above the stone walls.
Two and a half hours are allowed for sightseeing. The visit is a walk through the archaeological site, viewing the main monuments from outside.
Starting around 9:45, the estimate includes 20 minutes of driving to the car park, 10 for parking, 5 to walk to the site and 5 as a buffer at the entrance. The visit begins around 10:25 and lasts until 12:55. Including the approach, the activity takes 3 hours and 10 minutes.
Kulturni centar Bar publishes opening hours of 8:00-20:00 for Stari Bar and an adult admission price of 5 EUR. The drive ends at the Stara carsija car park, with the archaeological site reached on foot from there.
The bazaar below the town and lunch
The neighbourhood below the walls has shops, souvenir shops and restaurants. After the archaeological site, the walk continues along a street where everyday life in Stari Bar still takes place. An hour remains for walking and looking around the shops before lunch at one of the bazaar's restaurants.
The estimate allows 5 minutes to leave the site and walk down, with lunch around 14:00. An hour for the meal and half an hour of rest, together with the walk, make 2 hours and 35 minutes in total. You would continue towards Mirovica around 15:30.
The Old Olive Tree at Mirovica
The Old Olive Tree at Mirovica is more than 2,000 years old and is protected as a natural monument. The space around it is laid out for visitors, and its story is also part of local tradition: according to legend, feuding families reconciled beneath the tree. The name Mirovica is linked to that custom.
The estimate allows 5 minutes to walk from the bazaar to the car, 10 for driving, and another 5 each for parking and walking to the entrance. Continuing around 15:30 would bring you to the tree around 15:55. The visit allows 35 minutes, followed by 5 to walk back to the car, around 16:35. The total is an hour and 5 minutes.
Kuca maslina publishes opening hours of 8:00-18:00 for the Old Olive Tree, every day. The site's page lists an adult admission price of 2 EUR. This is a visit to the tree at Mirovica, separate from Kuca maslina's showroom in Stari Bar.
Return from Mirovica to Bar
The return from Mirovica follows the E851 to Bar's coastal centre. The estimate allows 15 minutes for driving, plus 5 each for parking and the final walk to your accommodation: 25 minutes in total. By this estimate, your return is around 17:00.
Planning a summer stay
Starting point in Topolica and parking
Walking approaches are calculated from near King Nikola's Palace. The starting point for driving navigation is the car park beside the palace, reached from the town streets. Stari Bar has a separate car park, with entry to the site on foot. Your accommodation address can add time to the start and return journeys.
Time for museum visits
Published opening hours are 8:00-20:00 for the Local History Museum and Stari Bar, and 8:00-18:00 for the Old Olive Tree. The museum follows the beach and a rest. Stari Bar's open archaeological site is visited before lunch on the third day.
Questions about a three-day stay in Bar
Are Stari Bar and the coastal centre the same place?
Stari Bar is inland beneath Rumija, about four kilometres from the sea. Topolica and the modern coastal centre are beside the sea. The plan uses accommodation in the coastal centre, with archaeological Stari Bar visited on the third day after driving to the car park and entering on foot.
Is a car needed for this three-day itinerary?
A car is needed on the second and third days for this itinerary: first for Utjeha, then for Stari Bar and Mirovica. The first day is on foot. Every day includes a return to the same accommodation in Bar.
Where can I check bathing water quality?
Results for individual bathing sites are available on JP Morsko dobro's portal, with the sampling date. The result for the specific bathing site and its date matter, since the total for Bar municipality does not describe every beach separately. An earlier test does not establish conditions throughout your stay.
