City walks and recreation on Gorica

A walk through Stara Varos to Sastavci

You can start your walk at Sahat-kula on Becir-bega Osmanagica Square in Stara Varos and follow the lanes towards Sastavci. The setting changes as you walk from the old neighbourhood’s houses to the stone bridge over the Ribnica. The streets give way to the river confluence, where the Ribnica meets the Moraca. By the bridge, you can pause beside the water, look across the channels of both rivers, and spend part of your outing on the riverbank.

The lower approaches by the bridge involve steps and uneven stone surfaces, so choose shoes that let you walk securely on that stretch as well. The stories of Stara Varos and Sastavci and the Old Bridge over the Ribnica can add context to your walk, and the guide to Podgorica’s restaurants can help you choose somewhere to eat afterwards. Stara Varos, start of the walk at Sahat-kula on Google Maps. Sastavci, continuation of the walk to the river confluence on Google Maps.

Walking or running on Gorica’s woodland trails

Gorica is a place to walk or run through a pine-covered park close to the centre. The walking and fitness trails head uphill, so you can adjust the distance and pace for gentle exercise or a longer workout. The hill offers views towards the Moraca and Milenijum Bridge, and the approach by St. George’s Church is a useful landmark when coming from the centre.

For a longer walk, the Gorica-Malo brdo-Duklja trail is listed by the Tourist Organisation as 11.3 kilometres long. It connects several areas and requires planning for the full route, while a walk on Gorica itself can follow a shorter loop along the hill’s trails. If you also want to stop at the church or monument, you can read their stories among Gorica’s attractions. Gorica, walking, running, and the adventure park on Google Maps.

02
Obstacle courses, a bike tour, and the Moraca

Obstacles and zip lines at Avanturisticki park Gorica

Avanturisticki park Gorica offers obstacle courses among the trees. You move from one platform to another across bridges, nets, and other obstacles, with zip lines on some sections. Balance and height are part of the experience, so the course you choose determines how demanding the outing will be.

The park provides equipment and an initial briefing, both included in the programme price. Courses differ in difficulty and conditions of use, so you choose a suitable course with the staff. You can arrange a time and discuss the current options with Avanturisticki park Gorica. For a visit with children, the Podgorica family guide covers choices based on age and the conditions of the outing in more detail. Gorica, walking, running, and the adventure park on Google Maps.

A guided e-bike tour through the city and to Duklja

Marco Polo Travel’s guided programme takes you by electric bike through Stara Varos, across the Moraca bridges, and to the cathedral and Duklja. The guide explains the places along the route, and the operator provides the bike and necessary equipment.

The Podgorica Tourist Organisation lists this programme as 20 kilometres and three hours. That time covers the tour, and you plan the journey to the meeting point separately. You arrange the time and departure point with the operator using the details provided with the cultural cycling tour, where you can also read the route description before booking. Duklja, area of the e-bike tour and tubing on Google Maps.

Guided summer tubing on the Moraca

Tubing on the Moraca lets you experience the river by floating downstream on a purpose-made tube. Discover Podgorica offers a summer programme from the area near Duklja towards the city, with small rapids and sections for swimming. A guide and lifeguard lead the group, and participants receive a tube, life jacket, helmet, and dry bag for their belongings.

The programme is for confident swimmers and does not accept non-swimmers. The operator lists approximately two hours for the activity and groups of two to six participants. Departures depend on river conditions, so arrange the date and meeting point through the Moraca tubing programme before fitting the outing into your stay. 03
Exhibitions, the museum, and an evening at the theatre

An exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art

Exhibitions at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Montenegro feature painting, sculpture, installations, and other contemporary media, depending on the current programme. The museum covers art from the 1950s to the present. Dvorac Petrovica and Perjanicki dom are in Krusevac Park, where you can combine a visit with a walk, while the MSU Gallery is on Njegoseva Street in the centre.

A single ticket covers all MSUCG exhibition venues. If several exhibitions interest you, you can visit them with the same ticket, allowing time to travel between the centre and Krusevac. The current exhibition announcements give the theme, dates, and venue, while the museum’s price list provides admission conditions and visiting hours. You can read the history of the palace complex in the description of Dvorac Petrovica and Krusevac Park. MSU, Dvorac Petrovica on Google Maps. MSU, Perjanicki dom on Google Maps. The City Museum and objects from Podgorica’s past

At the City Museum, you can learn about Podgorica’s past through objects from local sites and collections devoted to the history and culture of the area. The archaeological collection includes flint tools from Bioce, as well as jewellery and objects from Duklja’s necropolises. Finds from Duklja also reveal trade links with other parts of the Roman Empire, so a museum visit can complement a visit to the remains of the ancient city.

The museum is at 4 Marka Miljanova Street in central Podgorica and has archaeological, historical, ethnographic, and cultural history departments. The museum’s published description covers its archaeological holdings, so if you are visiting to see a particular object, ask the museum first whether it is currently on display. The museum welcomes visitors from Tuesday to Sunday. Its published opening hours and contact details let you choose a time to visit and ask about the exhibition. City Museum on Google Maps.

An evening performance at the Montenegrin National Theatre

At the Montenegrin National Theatre, you can watch literary dramas and contemporary original productions on its Velika scena or Scena Studio stages. Productions include Krleza’s ‘Gospoda Glembajevi’ and Lijesevic’s ‘Nalicje’, which explores money, violence, and relationships in contemporary society.

When planning an evening out, the date, stage, and start time of the performance in Podgorica matter, because the CNP schedule also includes performances in other cities. Some performances have English subtitles, noted alongside their scheduled time, which can help visitors who do not understand the language of the play. You can buy tickets online for your chosen performance. Montenegrin National Theatre on Google Maps.

04
Wine tasting and go-karting beyond the centre

Wine tasting at Sipcanik cellar

A tasting at Sipcanik combines a tour of the underground cellar with sampling wines alongside a sommelier. You can choose a package according to the wines and food served. Bouquet includes three wines and bruschetta, In vino veritas includes four wines and a selection of cheeses, and Snaga podneblja includes four wines with meat or fish appetisers. All three programmes include a cellar tour.

Plantaze lists one hour for each of these packages, with the journey from Podgorica and back planned separately. The programme is for visitors older than 18, and you book the package you choose. Compare the wines, food, and price in Plantaze’s tasting programmes before booking. Arrange transport with a driver for the tasting, and read about the cellar itself in the section on Sipcanik wine cellar. Sipcanik, wine tasting on Google Maps.

Recreational go-karting in Lijesnje

At the karting track in Lijesnje, outside Podgorica beside the road towards Cetinje, you can go karting on your own or with friends. The system records the time of each lap on the outdoor track, so you can try to improve your previous result or compare your driving with your friends.

According to the Karting centar Podgorica price list, a session in an adult RT10 kart lasts ten minutes and costs 16 euros. Allow time for getting there, preparation, and any waiting as part of the full outing. Recreational karting takes place on a dry track, so after rain you need to wait until it has dried completely. Questions about activities in Podgorica

Do I need a car for an active stay in Podgorica?

You can plan city walks and cultural visits without a hire car. For the e-bike tour and tubing, arrange how you will get to the meeting point, because having a guide and equipment in the offer does not mean transport from your accommodation is included. Sipcanik and the karting track in Lijesnje require a separate trip there and back, and for wine tasting choose transport with a driver. You can find public transport routes and other ways to get there in the practical information for Podgorica.

Is it worth staying in Podgorica for more than one day?

A stay of more than one day makes sense if you want several scheduled activities as well as time to explore the city independently. The e-bike tour lasts three hours and summer tubing approximately two, counting only the programme itself. An evening at the theatre depends on the performance date. For a walk and one museum visit, you can plan a shorter stay.

Where can I find events for the dates of my stay?

The Podgorica Tourist Organisation’s calendar lists exhibitions, concerts, and other programmes for the dates of your stay. Look for the venue, start time, and ticket details in the institution’s or organiser’s announcement, which gives the conditions for the specific event.
