01

Coffee and socialising

In Zabljak, you can sit down for coffee in the centre, and people also socialise over coffee when visiting neighbours at home. The town's cafes offer space to meet in the morning or socialise over a drink later.

In one previously described circle of neighbours, a couple who had moved to Zabljak would visit their neighbours for coffee and to watch television. Alongside these visits, they helped each other with firewood and food.

For places to have coffee or a meal, see our Where to eat in Zabljak guide.

02

Shopping

Zabljak has shops for everyday grocery shopping, as well as shops selling clothing and footwear. Sportswear is also available, so shopping during your stay is not limited to food and souvenirs. If you are staying in an apartment, you can buy basic groceries in town.

Residents have not always done all their shopping in Zabljak: some previously travelled to other cities because of price differences.

Buy your groceries for Sunday ahead of time. We explain the current restriction and its exceptions below.

03

04

05

Going out and nightlife

You can spend an evening in Zabljak having a drink and talking in a town cafe. Alongside venues that offer evening socialising, there is a seasonal cultural programme with outdoor concerts. These musical gatherings have their own programmes and dates, so you should not expect them every night during your stay.

At a tamburica concert held on Macan poljana in July, traditional melodies and traditional urban songs were performed for the audience.

06

Work and business

Work in Zabljak includes hospitality and accommodation, as well as private-sector work and roles in family businesses. Some older residents continued working after retirement through occasional or seasonal jobs. Young people from the town have also pointed to a shortage of jobs.

In winter, the work of municipal crews is also visible. In one January report, workers were clearing town and local roads according to priority. Improperly parked vehicles made it harder for the machinery to pass. Snow that makes winter holidays possible for guests means street maintenance work for these employees.

07

Digital nomads

Couples have previously stayed in Zabljak and worked remotely from private accommodation. People also worked in a public space in summer, in a designated area with internet access.

IT nomads previously worked in the EKO-SMART park in summer, using its Wi-Fi zone. If you would like to spend part of your working day there, check whether the work area is available and its internet connection is working.

Our Where to stay in Zabljak guide covers accommodation types and property locations.

What changes on Sundays

If you are staying in an apartment in Zabljak, finish your regular shopping for Sunday ahead of time. The current law prohibits regular retail trade on Sundays and on legally designated holidays.

Exceptions include markets, pharmacies, specialist shops selling baked goods, and petrol stations with related facilities. An exemption allows a business to open, but does not confirm that a particular business in Zabljak is open or that you can do all your shopping there.
