Staying and getting around

Practical information for Zabljak

Staying in Zabljak means being close to Durmitor, but accommodation extends beyond the town itself. Hotels along the road to Black Lake and properties in Borje and Smrcevo Brdo provide different bases for a holiday. Location also affects how you get around day to day: you can walk around the centre, while staying outside town involves transport into it.

The guide was prepared using tourism information and research into staying in Zabljak. The content was reviewed, confirmed and verified by Oliver Petrovic on 7 October 2026.

This practical information explains getting around Zabljak, local taxis and car hire, alongside accommodation recommendations and booking platforms. For mobile internet, it covers MTEL eSIMs, regular calls and regional roaming. The onward travel section connects Zabljak bus station, train travel via Mojkovac, ticket purchases and arrival from the airport. It also covers currency, card payments and cash exchange, as well as the role of a car for trips beyond the town centre. Three questions at the end clarify printing a bus ticket, registering a foreign guest and the cost of carrying a suitcase.

Useful shortcuts

Local transport and getting around

You can get around Zabljak's town centre on foot. Staying in Borje or visiting outlying Durmitor sites also involves transport outside town: local taxis provide individual rides, while a hire car allows independent trips.

Taxis and on-demand transport

A taxi can take you to accommodation outside the centre or to a chosen access point for Durmitor without your own car. You can arrange a ride with Peko Pjesivac, Mirko Gagovic, or Pavle Obradovic.

Car hire

Your hire car can be delivered to a selected address in Zabljak town.

The offer shows the delivery conditions and any fee for the selected address and collection time. Collection from an office is available with offers that support that option.

Mobile internet and communication

You can use an MTEL tourist eSIM during your stay in Zabljak. Its data allowance, regular calls, and use in regional roaming have separate conditions that matter if you continue your trip outside Montenegro.

eSIM and activation

An MTEL eSIM lets you buy mobile internet online. Your phone must support eSIMs, and the purchase includes identity verification. The activation QR code arrives by email.

Calls and roaming

The data allowance in an MTEL tourist plan does not include credit for regular calls and SMS. Plans start with €0 credit for these services, so the data allowance does not automatically pay for them.

Domestic and regional data allowances are also separate. Mtel turist 15 includes 500 GB in Montenegro and 9.92 GB of roaming data in the listed Western Balkan countries.

Intercity buses arrive at the station in Zabljak town. Bus connections include Podgorica, Niksic, Pljevlja, and Mojkovac.

Questions about staying in Zabljak

Can I board with a BusTicket4.me ticket on my phone?

BusTicket4.me requires a printed copy of its tickets when boarding the bus. Some operators allow an exception, but a PDF on your phone is not sufficient for every departure booked through this portal.

Who registers a foreign guest staying in Zabljak?

When you use a hotel or another accommodation provider, the provider registers your stay. If you stay with friends as a tourist and do not use an accommodation provider, you register the stay yourself through the local tourist organisation or the competent authority.

Does an intercity bus ticket include the cost of carrying a suitcase?

A ticket bought on BusTicket4.me does not necessarily include the cost of carrying a suitcase. The operator may charge separately for luggage under its own conditions.
