The guide was prepared using tourism information and research into staying in Cetinje. The content was reviewed, confirmed and verified by Oliver Petrovic on 7 October 2026.

This practical information covers getting around Cetinje, taxis and car hire, the MTEL shop and eSIM, calls and roaming, and choosing and searching for accommodation. It also covers the bus station, train connections via Podgorica, and airport arrivals, along with money, payments, and access to the pedestrian centre. For trips beyond the centre, it describes destinations where a car can be useful. The FAQ explains foreign guest registration, printing bus tickets, and separate charges for carrying a suitcase.

Useful shortcuts

Local transport and getting around

Cetinje's historic centre can be explored on foot. Njegoseva Street leads through town to Dvorski Square, with the Biljarda, King Nikola Museum, and Cetinje Monastery around it.

Taxis and on-demand transport

A taxi provides an individual ride beyond the pedestrian centre, without renting a car for the entire stay. AUTO - TAXI CETINJE can be contacted for rides within town and to other towns.

Car hire

A hire car can be delivered to your chosen address in Cetinje.

The offer shows the conditions and any delivery charge for the selected address, date, and time. Collection at an office is available with offers that support that option.

Mobile internet and communication

In Cetinje, you can use an MTEL tourist eSIM or visit the shop on Njegoseva Street. Data allowances, regular calls, and regional roaming have separate conditions, which also matter when travelling beyond Montenegro.

SIM cards and where to buy them

The MTEL shop is at Njegoseva 10a. On weekdays, summer hours are 8:00 to 21:00 and winter hours are 8:00 to 20:00, while Saturday hours are 8:00 to 16:00.

eSIM and activation

MTEL eSIM allows mobile data to be purchased online. The phone must support eSIM, and the purchase includes identity verification. The activation QR code arrives by email.

Calls and roaming

The data allowance in an MTEL tourist plan does not include credit for regular calls and SMS. These plans come with €0 in initial credit for those services, so the data allowance does not automatically cover their cost.

Domestic and regional data allowances are also separate. Mtel turist 15 includes 500 GB in Montenegro and 9.92 GB for roaming in the listed Western Balkan countries.

Stations and onward travel

Stations and departure points

Cetinje bus station is on Trg golootockih zrtava. Intercity buses arrive and depart here, away from the museum area around Dvorski Square.

Connections to other destinations

Cetinje has no train station. When arriving by train via Podgorica, the journey from that station to Cetinje continues by bus.

Timetables and tickets

BusTicket4.me lists the available intercity departures for the selected date and destination. For departures with an online ticket available, tickets can be bought on the website. Railway Transport of Montenegro publishes the timetable for train travel to Podgorica.

Money and payments

Currency and payment methods

Payments in Cetinje are made in euros, as in the rest of Montenegro. Cards are widely accepted in hotels, restaurants, bars, shops, and petrol stations.

ATMs and currency exchange

The cash exchange rate applies when exchanging banknotes in another currency. NLB publishes this separately from its foreign exchange rate for non-cash transactions. Regular cash exchange at NLB takes place on weekdays during branch opening hours.

Driving in the city

When a car is useful

A car allows independent trips from Cetinje to Lovcen, Njegusi, or Rijeka Crnojevica. These destinations are outside the walking area around Njegoseva Street and Dvorski Square.

Traffic and access to the city

Dvorski Square and Njegoseva Street are part of the pedestrian centre. The handover of a hire car takes place at an agreed address that a vehicle can reach, rather than on the square itself.

Car hire in CetinjeFor a stay that includes visiting Lovcen, Njegusi, or Rijeka Crnojevica, compare offers for your planned dates and collection at an address in town. Delivery conditions and any charge are shown with the selected offer.

Questions about staying in Cetinje

Can I board with a BusTicket4.me ticket on my phone?

BusTicket4.me requires a printed copy of its tickets when boarding the bus. Some carriers allow an exception, but a PDF on a phone is not sufficient for every departure booked through this website.

Who registers a foreign guest's stay in Cetinje?

When staying at a hotel or with another accommodation provider, the provider handles registration. If you are visiting as a tourist and staying with friends without using an accommodation provider, you register your stay yourself through the local tourist organisation or the competent authority.

Does an intercity bus ticket include the cost of taking a suitcase?

A ticket bought on BusTicket4.me does not necessarily include the cost of carrying a suitcase. Luggage transport may be charged separately under the carrier's conditions.
