Useful shortcuts

Local transport and getting around

You can explore central Budva on foot. Local buses connect the city with other coastal communities along the riviera. Car hire is also available in Budva for trips into the mountainous hinterland.

Public transport

Local transport in Budva follows the coast: buses from the centre run to Sveti Stefan and Petrovac, with services throughout the year. They depart from Mediteranska Street, at the roundabout opposite Perla restaurant. These local services do not leave from the intercity bus station in Rozino.

The Budva Tourist Organisation's transport page lists the local bus timetable and contact details for Mediteran Express.

Taxis and on-demand transport

You can take a taxi from ranks at the bus station, on Slovenska Obala and near Zeta Film, or order one by phone. Several companies offer city journeys, while Terrae Taxi also provides private transfers to other destinations in Montenegro.

Car hire

In Budva, you can book a hire car for delivery to your accommodation or another city address. Collection from an office is available with offers that include that option.

On the Hire And Travel page for Budva, you can compare offers for your dates and collection location. Fees for the selected collection and return are included in the total offer price.

Mobile internet and communication

MTEL offers a physical SIM card and an eSIM for tourist internet access in Budva. A physical card requires a visit to a shop, while an eSIM can be purchased and registered online before arrival.

SIM cards and where to buy them

The MTEL shop in Budva is on Mediteranska Street, in the post office building. A physical tourist SIM card is also an option if your phone does not support eSIM.

eSIM and activation

An MTEL eSIM requires a phone that supports the technology. Your identity is verified during purchase, after which the installation QR code arrives by email.

Calls and roaming

The MTEL tourist package includes internet, but the initial credit for paid calls and SMS is €0. Standard phone calls are therefore charged separately from the included data.

Travel from Montenegro to other Western Balkan countries uses a separate, smaller data allowance. The Mtel turist 15 package, for example, includes 500 GB in Montenegro and 9.92 GB for regional roaming.

Stations and onward travel

Stations and departure points

Intercity buses depart from Budva Bus Station in Rozino. Its ticket counter is open from 6:00 to 22:00.

Connections to other destinations

Budva is connected to Podgorica by intercity bus. To continue by train, you need to reach a station in another city, as Budva has no passenger train station.

Timetables and tickets

You can search intercity departures from Budva by date and destination and buy a ticket on BusTicket4.me. Tickets are also available at the bus station counter.

Money and payments

Currency and payment methods

Budva uses the euro, as does the rest of Montenegro. Cards are widely accepted at hotels, restaurants, shops and petrol stations.

ATMs and currency exchange

If you need euros outside bank opening hours, Hipotekarna Banka's ATMs at 4 Mediteranska Street are accessible day and night.

You can exchange foreign banknotes at a bank branch. NLB uses a separate exchange rate list for cash, distinct from its rates for non-cash exchange. This service is available during branch opening hours.

Healthcare services

Pharmacies

Mogren Pharmacy, near Budva Health Centre, also opens at weekends, with shorter hours. It is open from 7:00 to 21:00 Monday to Friday, 7:00 to 14:00 on Saturdays and 8:00 to 12:00 on Sundays.

Routine healthcare

For routine consultations during your stay, Budva Health Centre provides general medical and paediatric services on Popa Jola Zeca Street. These services have different weekend hours: general medicine operates from 7:00 to 19:00 on Saturdays and 7:00 to 14:00 on Sundays, while paediatrics runs from 7:00 to 12:00 on both days.

Driving in the city

When a car is useful

A car is useful for a scenic drive from Budva towards Cetinje and Lovcen. These sections form part of the Sea and Heights driving route, which connects the coast with the mountainous hinterland.

Traffic and access to the city

The time a car can remain in on-street parking depends on the zone: the regular limit is one hour in zone I and three hours in zone II, while zone III has no such time limit. For longer stays, the choice of zone matters, as does the distinction between an on-street space and a garage or barrier-controlled car park, where separate payment terms apply.

Fuel and electric vehicle charging

Electric vehicle charging

A Schneider EVlink Pro DC charger has been installed in the Mega Mall car park, on Zrtava fasizma Street. It has a rated power of 60 kW and can charge two vehicles simultaneously, with access through the EVC Charge app.

Questions about staying in Budva

Is a ticket bought on BusTicket4.me valid if I show it on my phone?

BusTicket4.me requires a printed copy of its tickets when boarding the bus. Some carriers allow exceptions, but a PDF on your phone is not enough for every departure booked through this portal.

Who registers a foreign visitor's stay in Budva?

When you stay in a hotel or use another accommodation provider, the provider handles registration. If you are staying as a tourist with friends rather than using an accommodation provider, you must register your stay yourself through the local tourist organisation or the competent authority.

Does a daily parking ticket also cover garages?

A daily on-street parking ticket for 24 hours is valid only in zone III of Budva. It does not cover zones I and II, public garages or barrier-controlled car parks.
