Budva, Miločer and Sveti Stefan by car from Tivat
Sveti Stefan is an entire fortified settlement converted into a hotel town, with stone houses and red roofs above the strip of land connecting it to the mainland. This trip from Tivat also explores the surrounding coast, from a Paštrovići monastery to the park of a former royal residence. Budva then opens a window onto an older world, through finds from the ancient town and walls overlooking the sea.

Why set aside a day for this trip
The Budva Riviera is worth a day even if you are not here to swim. Behind the familiar image of Sveti Stefan is the story of a community that lived within its walls, while Miločer Park shows how the same coast was later landscaped for royal holidays. In Budva, that changing history reaches further back, from ancient objects to the fortress above the town. A full visit gives these places a meaning that a quick photo stop beside the main road cannot reveal. The round trip from Tivat involves approximately 70 km of driving, leaving most of the day for visits, a walk through the park and time by the sea.

70 min driving · 10 min for parking and the approach · 40 min at Praskvica

Leave Tivat in the morning and drive through Grbalj towards Budva, then follow the main road through Bečići towards Sveti Stefan. Praskvica is the first stop. Take the local approach from the east to the gravel area below the monastery, then follow the short path and steps. The parking area and walking approach are on the same side of the main road.
Explore the monastery courtyard and the Church of St Nicholas, then climb towards the Church of the Holy Trinity. Visit the interiors when they are open to visitors, respecting any services taking place. The treasury and library are not included in this visit, as no tourist admission programme has been confirmed for them.
Questions before a trip to Budva and Sveti Stefan
Can you enter Sveti Stefan Island without a hotel reservation?
Yes, on a seasonal guided visit confirmed by the operator for your arrival date. In summer 2026, small-group tours cost €25 per person and lasted 30 to 40 minutes. Availability outside that seasonal programme has not been confirmed. Before planning to enter, check the time slot with Aman Sveti Stefan, the operator. The island visit is not included in the duration or costs of the base trip, which explores the mainland.
Does a walk through Miločer also give you free access to its beaches?
Walking through the park and using the beaches are subject to different rules. The plan follows the upper route from Pržno towards Villa Miločer, which the operator has confirmed is free to use. The lower branch beside Queen’s Beach and the spa is controlled seasonally, while the hotel beaches have their own access rules. For time on the sand without an admission charge, this plan uses the free section of the left-hand beach at Sveti Stefan, looking from the mainland towards the island.
Where should you park for Sveti Stefan and Budva’s old town?
At Sveti Stefan, use the parking area beside the mainland shore, then walk to Drago Restaurant. In Budva, the plan uses the JAT car park on Mediteranska Street, from which you walk to the old town and Mogren. Parking Servis Budva charges for each hour started at its gated car parks, according to the tariff displayed at the entrance. The exact hourly rate depends on the car park and season, so check it before leaving the car. Parking costs are not included in the admission estimate.
